Kendall Emergency Department and New Main Entrance Slated to Open October 11th
Vermont Business Magazine Southwestern Vermont Medical Center (SVMC), a member of the Dartmouth Health system, has completed Phase One of the organization’s most ambitious building project in the last forty years.
A component of the Vision2020, A Decade of Transformation campaign, Phase One includes the opening of the new Kendall Emergency Department, the Richard and Pamela Ader Foundation Lobby, and Marro Café.
“This is an exciting day for our organization and the community,” says Tom Dee, Southwestern Vermont Medical Center’s President and CEO. “The new Kendall Emergency Department puts us in a position to better care for the current and emerging needs of the people we serve. The design of the space, which is double the size of the previous space, is an overdue improvement that brings the quality of the facility into alignment with the level of care offered by our outstanding, board certified, emergency physicians and nurses. Being a member of the Dartmouth Health system allows for connected care services with the clinical teams at Dartmouth Health via an expanded telemedicine program.”
In addition, the all-new Marro Café will celebrate its grand opening. Located off the new Richard and Pamela Ader Foundation Lobby, the café will initially be open from 7:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Monday through Friday; expanded hours are anticipated in the near future. The café will offer healthy food options, coffee, and other beverages, as well as gift items, toiletries, and other essentials for patients, staff, and visitors.
With Phase One complete, the temporary canopy entrance will be removed, and patients and visitors will access the hospital through the new main lobby and emergency department entrances. Lobby hours will be from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. with patients and visitors directed to the Kendall Emergency Entrance after-hours.
In addition, new traffic patterns and parking options will be established and clearly designated and accessible from both campus entrances. Parking spaces for renal patients and medical infusion patients will be relocated from the S1 Lot to the P3 Lot. All other patient parking will now be in the P Lot. Parking-to-facility shuttle services will no longer be offered. Bus pick-up and drop-offs will be at the main lobby entrance.
Work on the remaining Phases Two and Three of the Kendall Emergency Department renovation will be complete by fall of 2024 when the entire project will be complete.
