by Timothy McQuiston, Vermont Business Magazine The Patrick Leahy Burlington International Airport (BTV) and Breeze Airways, U.S.’ only NLCC, or “Nice Low-Cost Carrier, today announced new, nonstop service to Tampa International Airport (TPA) and Orlando International Airport (MCO) with Breeze Airways. Flights to Tampa will begin January 31, 2023 and flights to Orlando will begin February 14, 2023.

Along with the new routes, Breeze is also currently offering 35%** off base fares for roundtrip bookings using the code ‘BENICE’ which is applicable also on the new routes from Burlington.

“We are honored to welcome Breeze Airways to Leahy BTV and look forward to a long-lasting and valued partnership,” said Nic Longo, Director of Aviation, Patrick Leahy Burlington International Airport. “The Florida market is a highly sought-after market that was missing from Leahy BTV’s nonstop destination offerings. By offering low-fares and reliable service, Breeze provides a unique opportunity for more Vermonters to travel, as well as welcome more visitors to our great State.”

Already, about 200 passengers fly from BTV to Florida each day. Longo said he hopes to capture even more Vermonters who may be flying from another airport or even driving with these new options.

Breeze Airways will offer the only nonstop service to these markets from BTV on the following schedule:

  • Tampa, FL (Wednesdays and Saturdays, starting January 31, 2024, Nice from $79* one way); and
  • Orlando, FL (Wednesdays and Saturdays, starting February 14, 2024, Nice from $79* one way).

“Breeze’s focus is on connecting underserved markets, adding nonstops between cities without existing service,” said Breeze Airways’ President Tom Doxey. “As we introduce service from Burlington, we’re proud to bring affordable and convenient new travel options to two new Florida destinations.”

The flights will be twice a week and year-round to both destinations.

Breeze was founded two years ago by the founder of JetBlue. Breeze Director of External Communications Gareth Edmondson-Jones, who also spoke at the event Wednesday, said he was at BTV 20 years ago with JetBlue when they announced their service to JFK. JetBlue announced in October that would be terminating that service on January 4, 2024.

Kara Alnasrawi, Director of Business & Workforce Development for the City of Burlington added: “The addition of Breeze Airlines to Leahy BTV is exciting news for our local and regional economy.  Leahy BTV is one of the most important economic drivers in our state and the addition of a new airline expands that impact.  New direct routes out of Leahy BTV support the business community by enhancing tourist traffic and making employee recruitment for our business industry easier.”

Jeff Lawson, Vice President of Tourism, Lake Champlain Chamber also added: "These new routes to Orlando and Tampa will strengthen Burlington's already deep ties to Florida. We're especially excited to have Breeze Airlines stepping in as a new carrier to our region. As one of the top 5 airlines in the country with a customer-forward, cost-conscious approach, we couldn't ask for a better partner to help drive tourism and business travel to our region."
