She will return to lead and teach at Brown University; Jason Williams will serve as Interim
Vermont Business Magazine The University of Vermont Health Network announced today that Anya Rader Wallack, PhD, will step down from her role as Senior Vice President for Strategic Communications on September 1.
Wallack will return to Brown University as Administrative Director of the Advanced Clinical Translational Research Program, which supports researchers who improve health care delivery and public health practice. She also will continue her work as a professor in the Brown School of Public Health.

“Anya has been an essential partner to me in navigating my first eight months here,” said Sunny Eappen, MD, MBA, UVM Health Network President and Chief Executive Officer. “She has helped me get to know our communities, lawmakers and regulators, in both Vermont and New York, and understand how we can better connect and collaborate to advance our shared mission: the best care, delivered equitably and affordably, for the people we serve.”
Wallack joined the health system in 2021. During her tenure, she has played a key role in guiding interactions with Vermont and New York state governments. She also has served as the Chair of the Board of Managers for OneCare Vermont, a statewide network of health care providers dedicated to improving health care quality and reducing cost growth. She will continue to serve in this role.
“Improving state-level health systems has been a passion throughout my career, and I am blessed to have spent the last couple of years working with an incredibly dedicated and talented group of leaders and health care providers toward that end,” Wallack said. “I am glad to remain involved through OneCare, as we focus on how to align provider, state and federal resources and policies to improve health and reduce health care costs. I continue to believe this effort can be a model for the country.”
Wallack, originally from Vermont, has worked in high-level health policy positions for former Vermont Govs. Howard Dean and Peter Shumlin, and former Rhode Island Gov. Gina Raimondo.
Jason Williams, UVM Health Network’s Vice President of Government and Community Relations, will fill Wallack’s role until a permanent replacement is identified. Williams has worked for the Network and its predecessor organizations since 2005, leading the Government and Community Relations function since 2016.
“Jason’s deep connections across our organization and in our community will be an asset through this transition,” Dr. Eappen said. “I look forward to working more closely with him to support our excellent External Relations team in service of our mission.”
