Roxbury Village Park crowdfunding campaign launched

$7,500 goal to receive a 2:1 matching grant through DHCD’s Better Places Program

Vermont Business Magazine Roxbury residents will soon be able to enjoy many activities in the village like music-making in a brand-new gazebo, playing chess with friends, practicing ping pong, picnicking, and making arts and crafts under umbrellas at Roxbury Village Park. Winter activities will include a parade of snow people around the park built by schoolkids, their families, and volunteers. All these new options for Roxbury will happen thanks to a recently launched crowdfunding campaign, Roxbury Village Park Needs Your Support! This campaign is sponsored by the Vermont Department of Housing and Community Development’s Better Places program and led by the Roxbury Park Development Committee.

"Compelling public spaces that are well-designed and actively programmed can create intergenerational opportunities that create deeper connections to one’s community,” said Department of Housing and Community Development Commissioner Josh Hanford. "The Roxbury Village Park is a great project that will add a whole new dimension to the future of Roxbury Village.”

If this campaign reaches its $7,500 goal by April 11th, 2023 the Roxbury Park Development Committee will receive a matching grant of $15,000 from DHCD’s Better Places program.

The funds raised will be used to add two 8-person picnic tables, two ADA accessible 8-person picnic tables, four umbrellas for shade in the picnic area, one chess table and seating unit, one outdoor ping pong table, and several park benches. The gazebo will be ADA accessible with a raised pathway. Eight walks/ jogs around the pathway will equal ½ mile of exercise! A bike rack will be available if you pedal to the park.

To date, the new park has been designed, funded, and constructed by local residents. Businesses, and neighbors ready to support vibrant public places and community gathering areas, and local opportunities are encouraged to get involved and support this project. The goal of this project is to provide a central community gathering place for all ages and abilities.
