CCV receives $10,000 to support students’ basic needs

Vermont Business Magazine The Community College of Vermont (CCV) is pleased to share that it was selected as a 2023 Progress, Accomplishment, Thriving, Hope (PATH) Scholarship recipient through the Ellucian Foundation. The PATH Scholarship program provided grants to two-year public institutions in 2023 with a focus on supporting students facing economic hardship.

CCV’s $10,000 scholarship supported urgent student needs through CCV’s Life Gap Grant program. Life Gap Grants are small, just-in-time scholarships that help students get through challenging situations and stay in school.

The PATH Scholarship supported Life Gap Grants for 17 students, who received awards ranging from $500-$600. Students used the funds for winter tires, laptop repairs, housing costs, and to address food insecurity, among many other needs.

Aimee Stephenson is CCV’s director of resource development. “Life Gap Grants are funded entirely through philanthropic gifts to the College. Since 2017, 186 individual donors have gifted more than $1 million to Life Gap Grants, and the number of donors is growing each year. We feel so fortunate to have partners like the Ellucian Foundation who share our goal of helping students bridge challenging situations so they can stay in school and continue toward their academic goals.”

“Two-year public colleges are at the heart of the U.S. higher education system, serving as educational and career launch pads for students by providing critical skills and access to a wide range of learners,” said Laura Ipsen, president and CEO of Ellucian. “It’s imperative that we support these students by mitigating the obstacles that make it difficult to stay in school and develop the skills that are integral to our workforce and society. Through the PATH Scholarship program, we are dedicated to investing in their potential and contributing to their success.”

The Ellucian Foundation is the leading technology solutions provider for higher education. To date, the PATH Scholarship program has provided more than $2 million in grants. By the end of 2023, more than 2,000 students will have received PATH Scholarships.
