VermontBiz The Senate Committee on Economic Development, Housing and General Affairs will be touring flood damage in downtown Barre with Mayor Jacob Hemmerick and local legislative leaders at 9:30 a.m. on Tuesday, August 15, followed by a hearing on flood-related housing damage from 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the State House.
Vermont communities have been severely impacted by floods, resulting in significant challenges for residences in the affected areas, with over 4,000 homes damaged and over 700 rendered uninhabitable. Recognizing the urgent need to support housing recovery, the Committee will hear from those impacted directly by the floods, as well as local, State, and national stakeholders in advancing affordable, resilient housing. This will include testimony regarding mobile home residents and previously unhoused Vermonters.
The press and the public are encouraged to attend the online proceedings of the Committee meeting. Information and the link to the livestream can be found on the committee page: https://legislature.vermont.gov/committee/detail/2024/32
