Business Sense Training Series from the Vermont Sustainable Jobs Fund

Vermont Agency of Agriculture Food & Markets The Vermont Sustainable Jobs Fund's business management coaching program just launched Business Sense, a six-module training series for entrepreneurs and small business owners.

The series provides essential tools and informational resources in areas such as financials, operations, sales and marketing, human resources, leadership, and governance.

Business Sense aims to help businesses thrive. The first two modules, Financial Literacy and Business Operations, have been released and the remaining four modules will be launching soon.

The series is designed to accelerate the growth of Vermont-based enterprises and expand the leadership capacity of entrepreneurs.

If so, nominate them for the 2023 Dairy Farm of the Year, sponsored by New England Green Pastures, University of Vermont Extension, and the Vermont Dairy Industry Association.

Dr. Kristin Haas Awarded the
2023 Dave Walker Award

Dr. Kristin Haas, State Veterinarian and Deputy Director of the Division of Food Safety & Consumer Protection at VAAFM, was awarded the 2023 Dave Walker Award by the Vermont Veterinary Medical Association this past February.

The award is in honor of Dr. Walker's principles, devotion, and commitment to the Vermont veterinary community. It is reserved for those who have served the Vermont veterinary community and professional organizations in the same spirit as Dr. Walker.

Vermont Vacation wants your photos of baby animals for their website!

If you have newborn or young spring animals on your farm, please consider sharing them with Vermont Vacation, the official website of the Vermont Department of Tourism and Marketing.

To submit, fill out the standard release form and email photos to [email protected]. Images you submit will be considered for use in VDTM marketing initiatives.

WLEI Grantee Highlight:
Haystack Farmstead

Brian and Breya Leach own Haystack Farmstead in Pawlet where they raise Angus/Wagyu cross cattle & broiler chickens on pasture. With their $95,259 Meat, Slaughter, and Processing grant they will finish building an open source, modular-prefabricated meat plant scaled to enable on-farm operation under USDA inspection.

This project will be instrumental for Haystack Farmstead to execute its larger strategy of diversification, vertical integration, and wholesale marketing to premium retailers.
