The Local to host Master Sommelier David Keck of Stella14 Wines May 1

Vermont Business Magazine The Local, a wine and beer shop located in Middlesex, will host Master Sommelier David Keck of Cambridge, VT based Stella14 Wines on Monday, May 1 at 5:30pm. At this ticket-only tasting event, Keck will guide attendees through the story of the wines that inspired the creation of Stella14’s Birches, a dry sparkling red wine.

Says owner of The Local, Sam Rosenberg, “We're so lucky to be able to host this special evening. That a Master Sommelier is coming into our tasting room and teaching our patrons is such a unique experience, and one that I'm happy to be able to help facilitate!”

Keck is one of only 273 Master Sommeliers in the world. He discovered his love for wine while pursuing a career—and traveling the world—as an opera singer. He took his first sommelier course with the Court of Master Sommeliers in 2010, was named one of Food & Wine’s Sommeliers of the Year in 2016 and passed his Master Sommelier exam later that year. Keck is a much sought-after presenter and wine judge at seminars and competitions, both nationally and internationally.

A Vermont native, Keck returned to his home state in summer 2020 and founded Stella14 Wines with his partner Lauren Droege. They began by working with some of the oldest vines in the state and converting the vineyards to organic practices. They produced the first vintage of Stella14 wine in fall 2020. For Keck, Vermont is one of the most pioneering regions in the nation for grape growing and wine making.

Tickets for the guided tasting with Master Sommelier David Keck become available on Friday, April 14 at 10am. Seating is limited, and tickets can be purchased online(link is external) while supplies last.

This tasting comes on the heels of The Local’s inaugural event in The Tasting Room, a guided cheese and wine pairing where Zoe Brickley of Jasper Hill Farm and Sarah Nagle of The Local talked about the cheese making process and the art of pairing wine. Upcoming events(link is external) in the Tasting Room include a book event with local author Sarah Strohmeyer, a dinner featuring DinoBones BBQ, and a charcuterie and wine pairing event with 5th Quarter.
