Vermont Business Magazine The University of Vermont’s College of Education and Social Services (CESS) and the Vermont Agency of Education (AOE) will honor outstanding educators throughout Vermont and Vermont’s 2023 Teacher of the Year at the 42nd annual Outstanding Educators Day on Wednesday, November 9 at the University of Vermont (UVM).
Hosted by CESS and AOE, the event is a culmination of each organization’s longstanding annual ceremonies honoring Vermont educators. Vermont Secretary of Education Dan French, CESS Interim Dean Katharine Shepherd, and Vermont National Education Association President Donald Tinney will recognize excellence and innovation in teaching throughout all of Vermont’s school districts and supervisory unions; celebrate educators’ powerful impact on children, families, schools and communities in Vermont; and honor the 2023 Vermont Teacher of the Year and distinguished finalists in the Teacher of the Year competition.

Since 1964, the Agency of Education has recognized outstanding Vermont teachers through the Vermont Teacher of the Year award. The 2023 Vermont Teacher of the Year will serve as an advocate for the teaching profession, education, and students. They are also Vermont’s candidate for the 2023 National Teacher of the Year award, sponsored by the Council of Chief State School Officers (CCSS). They will represent Vermont next spring for the National Teacher of the Year program, typically held in Washington D.C.
