Vermont Agency of Transportation VTrans will continue bridge deck replacement of Mother’s Bridge over Lake Champlain between North Hero Island and South Alburg. Traffic impacts will be limited to an occasional one-way alternating traffic pattern under flagger control for the remainder of the 2022 construction season.
During the 2023 construction season, the traffic pattern across the bridge will consist of full-time alternating one lane traffic regulated by temporary traffic signals.
CONSTRUCTION ACTIVITIES:
The contractor will continue installing shielding on the underside of the bridge from barges placed in the water. Installation of the shielding under the bridge is approximately 50% complete.
The shielding will be used to catch debris once demolition activities begin.
Work on the underside of the bridge will continue for several more weeks.
LOCATION: Approximately 0.2 miles east of the intersection of US Route 2 with VT Route 129 in the Town of North Hero.
PROJECTED COMPLETION: Winter 2024
NOTICE TO MARINERS:
VERMONT – LAKE CHAMPLAIN – REVIERE RICHELIEU TO SOUTH HERO ISLAND –Bridge Repairs – In preparation for bridge deck replacement of Mother’s Bridge over Lake Champlain between North Hero Island, VT and South Alburg, VT shielding will be installed on the underside of the bridge starting September 26, 2022. The shielding and associated work platforms will reduce the vertical clearance of the channel by a maximum of 1.5 feet and the horizontal clearance by 9.0 feet. Construction barges will be on scene conducting the work but will be moored out of the channel after hours.
Red and green buoys will be positioned to advise mariners of the navigational channel through the construction area. Installation of the shielding will be completed by mid-November 2022.
