Farm to School Vision Grant

Farm to School Vision Grant

The Agency of Agriculture, Food & Markets has announced the opening of the 2022 Farm to School Vision grant. This competitive funding opportunity is designed to help schools, childcare providers and afterschool programs engage with food system issues through youth education and empowerment.

Awards of up to $16,000 are available to support projects that help Vermont youth learn about and engage in issues related to agriculture, nutrition, health, and related fields. We are specifically interested in projects that offer innovative and impactful approaches, can be easily scaled or replicated, and address contemporary issues affecting the food system.

Non-profits that conduct programming in Vermont are also eligible to apply for this grant in partnership with a school, childcare provider, or afterschool program.

Deadline to Apply: April 22nd @ 11:59 pm

Vermont Climate Council Public Form Registration

The Vermont Climate Council is holding public forums to share information about its ongoing work and to hear from Vermonters across the state. Come learn about Vermont’s Climate Action Plan, the legislative initiatives it has inspired, and the Council’s plans for this year. The fourms will split into small groups to discuss the feedback Vermonters want to share with the Council. Register for an early evening session on April 12 or lunch session on April 13. If you want to learn more about this ongoing work, please feel free to email Jane Lazorchak.

Avian Influenza Information for All Poultry Owners

All Vermonters should be on the alert for highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI). The HPAI virus is often initially introduced to domestic poultry by infected wild birds and then may spread between poultry flocks. Everyone involved with poultry production, including small backyard coops, should review their biosecurity activities and prevent contact with wild birds to ensure the health of their flock. Early detection is key and unusual bird deaths or sick birds should be reported to VAAFM at 802-828-2421 as soon as possible.

Food Export-Northeast will be conducting a Specialty Food Buyers Mission in conjunction with the Specialty Food Association at the 2022 Summer Fancy Food Show. This Buyers Mission is a unique, curated experience that maximizes your time and investment at North America’s premier showcase for specialty gourmet, ethnic, natural and organic foods, snacks and beverages. Meeting slots are scheduled on a first come, first served basis. Register by April 1 to take advantage of the discounted early registration rate.

Early Registration Deadline: Apr. 1

If you are in the business of selling sap or thinking about starting, UVM Extension has resources to help. Specializing in sap production and selling sap in a business-to-business transaction offers many advantages. Sap sellers are able to reduce their capital investments and focus specifically on sap production. Many syrup processors are seeing the benefits of sizing their facility in order to purchase-in additional sap as well. UVM Extension's Maple Business resources include a Sap Pricing Calculator to determine the price per gallon paid to the seller or determine Profit and Loss from sap hauling.
