Vermont Business Magazine VT Logger Education to Advance Professionalism is extending the current LEAP certification status to June 1, 2023. This will ease the pressure for some of you who need to get caught up because of COVID.
Also, here is a reminder of the changes made to the LEAP Curriculum to help make this industry and you all safer and more productive in the woods.
There are two tracks now for a LEAP Logger. One for those of you who fell mostly with a chainsaw and one for those of you who fell mostly with mechanized machinery.

In this workshop, LEAP participants learn about the main elements of forest ecosystems including water and wildlife, how productivity is influenced by various harvesting practices, and how to conserve soil while building access roads that can withstand heavy equipment and the elements.

This workshop is an elective course.

This workshop will focus on bucking logs to maximize return from each tree. Classroom discussion of common log defects and how they affect log and lumber grade, as well as bucking tips to maximize value. Log yard activities will include practice identification of defects and positioning bucking cuts to maximize return. An important workshop to improve log bucking skills and to better understand grading specs for hardwood sawmills. This workshop co-sponsored by VT FPR with support of a USDA Forest Service 2019 LSR Grant.

This workshop will focus on responding to serious injuries on forest operations. It will demystify some rescue methods as well as reinforce the “Do’s and Don’ts” to keep loggers healthier and alive longer! This workshop is applicable to any logger whether they are Mechanized or Conventional operators. It would also be invaluable to truckers and foresters, who are often the first on the scene of a logging accident. This workshop also satisfies LEAP’s First Aid and CPR requirements.

Game Of Logging (8 LEAP Credits per Level)
Levels 1-4 are mandatory for all Non-Mechanized LEAP loggers. The Level 5 (Refresher) is mandatory for anyone who completed Levels 1-4 more than 5 years ago.

Game of Logging is a world-recognized training curriculum that teaches chain saw skills. The program breaks apart saw work into steps that are practiced throughout the course. A fun scoring system helps focus participants’ attention on the most important details and allows them to measure their progress each day.
