Vermont Business Magazine This morning, via video announcement, former Vermont Governor Howard Dean endorsed Lieutenant Governor Molly Gray for Congress.
“There are a number of excellent candidates running for office this year to fill Vermont’s lone seat in the U.S. House of Representatives. Molly is the only candidate with direct experience working in and with Congress. She is the only candidate who has run, won, and served statewide,” said Governor Dean adding, “Molly is also the only candidate who has extensive foreign policy experience, a critical qualification for a strong member of Congress. Molly is the right leader in the right moment for our brave little state, and she has a proven track record of service and bringing people together to get things done.”
Governor Dean served six terms as Vermont’s Governor from 1991 to 2003. He was a democratic candidate for President in 2004 and went on to serve as Chair of the Democratic National Committee.
Today, he remains a national and international figure in democratic politics and serves on the Board of the National Democratic Institute.
“Governor Dean has been a strong and visionary leader in the Democratic party in Vermont and nationally. As Vermont’s Governor he fought for universal healthcare for Vermont children and marriage equality,” said Gray. “Governor Dean knows what is at stake in this election and that we need to elect a Congresswoman who will be ready to deliver for Vermont’s working families on day one. I’m proud to have earned Governor Dean’s support and deeply admire his career of service.”
Gray serves as Vermont's 82nd Lieutenant Governor. Gray announced her candidacy for the U.S. House of Representatives on December 6, 2021. A January 2022 poll conducted by Vermont Public Radio and Vermont PBS showed Lt. Governor Gray ahead of opponent Senator Becca Balint by 23 points among Democrats. In the first 25 days of her campaign, Gray raised over $318,000, topping the field, according to her campaign.
If elected in 2022, Gray would be the first woman in Vermont’s history to hold federal office. More information about Gray’s campaign for Congress can be found here.
