Global Leadership Program at Essex High School

Vermont Business Magazine The Global Leadership Program at Essex High School focuses on global studies, cross-cultural competency, and leadership development. We've been pioneers in the shift to hybrid and virtual programming - from our international exchanges to our Speaker Series. Our international exchange is happening right now with Belgium, Denmark, Ireland, and Spain - and Vermont!

The Speaker Series:
In addition to our very successful international exchanges that are both virtual and face-to-face, we also host a Speaker Series where students are given the chance to learn from and interact with ambassadors, politicians, journalists, and authors on a host of themes - from state politics and international diplomacy, to the local and global response to refugee and immigration crises around the world, to learning about critical languages like Arabic, Russian, and next month, Hindi.

Wed., Feb. 2:
On Wed., Feb. 2, we are welcoming award-winning NPR journalist, best-selling author, and creator and host of Art of Power, Aarti Shahani. Aarti’s first book, Here We Are, chronicles her unlikely journey from an undocumented kid in Queens, New York to a national voice on the frontlines of the most powerful industry on earth.

In collaboration with VPR:
The other great thing about this is that we'll collaborate once again with Vermont Public Radio. Vermont Edition co-host Mikaela Lefrak will conduct the interview with Aarti, incorporating questions from the Global Leadership Program students.

Previous collaboration with VPR:
We collaborated with VPR in 2018 when we hosted author Loung Ung, one of GLP's first speakers, along with Jane Lindholm of Vermont Edition. Here is the link to that broadcast:

The Shahani event will be virtual, recorded with the GLP student audience.
