Vermont Agency of Transportation This weekly report is a list of planned construction activities that will have traffic impacts on state highways throughout Vermont. Please remember to drive safely in all work zones. Lives depend on it.
Interstates
I-89 Brookfield – Montpelier – A resurfacing project begins in the southbound lanes between Exits 5 and 8. Operations will require lane reductions in the vicinity of active construction. A speed reduction to 55 mph will be enforced when lane closures are in effect.
I-89 Sharon – A bridge rehabilitation project continues. Traffic is reduced to one lane in each direction. Motorists; be aware of a work zone speed reduction.
I-89 White River Junction – Our partners at NHDOT are working on a multi-year bridge replacement project on I-89 over the Connecticut River. Motorists should expect lane and speed reductions over the bridge.
I-91 Bradford – Motorists will encounter lane closures in both directions near Exit 16 for preventative maintenance repair to bridges. A speed limit reduction to 55 mph through the work zone is in place.
I-91 Fairlee – St. Johnsbury – Preventative maintenance repairs to multiple bridges along the interstate have begun. Travel will be reduced to a single lane through the construction zones. Lane width and speed limit reductions are also in effect.
I-91 Ryegate – St. Johnsbury – A northbound resurfacing project is underway. Minimal traffic delays are expected as crews continue guardrail installation.
I-91 Weathersfield – A bridge deck replacement project continues at Exit 8. Lane and speed reductions are in effect in each direction as southbound traffic is merged to the northbound bridge using a crossover.
Around the State
Addison – VT 125 is closed just south of its intersection with VT 17 as crews work to rebuild the washed-out roadway. A signed detour utilizing VT 17 and VT 22A is in place.
Burlington, Shelburne Street Roundabout – Detour routes remain in place for motorists traveling along U.S. 7/Shelburne Street between Flynn Ave and Howard St. and on South Willard St. between Howard St. and Shelburne St.
The U.S. 7/Shelburne Street detour will divert traffic along Howard St., Pine St., and Flynn Ave to avoid delays and stoppages on weekdays between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. The South Willard St. detour will divert traffic along Howard St., St Paul St., and Shelburne St.
U.S. 7/Shelburne Street and South Willard St. will remain open to local traffic. Access and egress to Chittenden Dr. via South Willard St. will be closed 24-hours a day starting Friday, April 22 through Friday, April 29.
Burlington Waterfront – The AMTRAK/Greenway project continues. Work on the King St. and Maple St. projects late in the week will require alternate full road closures at the rail crossings. Access to the Perkins Pier and LCT lot will be maintained.
Castleton – A ledge project resumes on VT 30 near Crystal Beach. Temporary signals will be in effect regulating one-way alternating traffic.
Charlotte – South Burlington – A series of culvert replacements along U.S. 7 begins. Motorists should expect areas of intermittent one-way alternating traffic between 9 a.m. - 3 p.m. during weekdays.
Chelsea – Thetford – A resurfacing project continues on VT 113. Motorists should expect several traffic-control packages with alternating one-way traffic as crews conduct tree trimming and limb removal, as well as sign installation, ditching, and guardrail work.
Chester – A deck replacement project is underway on VT 103 just south of Smokeshire Rd. Motorists should expect speed and lane-width reductions and intermittent temporary road closures and lane closures with alternating one-way traffic along VT 103.
Chester – Springfield – Multiple bridge replacement projects have resumed on VT 11 between VT 103 in Chester and VT 106 in Springfield. A roadway project is underway at this same location. Expect one-way alternating traffic at multiple points along this route, with minor delays in several locations.
Colchester – Essex – Work continues on a multi-use path project. Travelers may encounter a lane closure along VT 15 between UVM Fanny Allen Campus and the Barnes Ave intersection.
Hardwick – A paving project along VT 14 and VT 15 is gearing up. Motorists should expect intermittent shoulder closures throughout the week as crews complete prep work ahead of milling operations.
Hartford – Motorists can expect alternating one-way traffic along U.S. 4 on weekdays between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. while crews work on milling and paving.
Marshfield – Danville – A series of culvert rehabilitations and replacements begins along U.S. 2. Motorists should expect alternating one-way traffic and delays in the area.
Montpelier – Berlin – A bridge deck replacement project is underway along U.S. 2 over the Winooski River at the Montpelier-Berlin town line. Motorists should expect one-way alternating traffic controlled by flaggers as crews continue constructing a temporary roadway.
Montgomery – A set of bridge deck replacements continues along VT 118. Motorists will encounter one-lane alternating traffic controlled by flaggers during the day and temporary traffic signals during off-hours between West Hill Rd. and Bank St.
Newfane – The Depot Rd. Arch Bridge over Rock River is closed through Fall 2022. Traffic will be rerouted from the north via Grimes Hill Rd. and from the south via VT 30. Through traffic is not permitted. Grimes Hill Rd. and Dover Rd. (at the intersection with Depot Rd.) are reduced to one lane with signals for the duration of the closure.
North Hero – Grand Isle – Drawbridge construction continues along U.S. 2. A speed reduction remains in place. Mariners: The drawbridge will begin its seasonal operating schedule on May 15, 2022.
Pittsford – A roadway project along U.S. 7 has resumed. One-way alternating traffic will be required throughout the week. Expect delays.
Richmond – Bolton – Culvert replacements continue along U.S. 2. Motorists will encounter areas of one-way alternating traffic directed by flaggers during the week. Expect delays.
South Hero – An intersection improvement project is underway at U.S. 2 and VT 314. Motorists should expect speed reductions throughout the project area and lane closures with flagged alternating one-way traffic along U.S. 2 between VT 314 and the St. Rose Lima Church.
Swanton – Highgate – A resurfacing project is underway along U.S. 7. Motorists will encounter traffic control and flaggers for milling and berm removal but should expect minimal delays.
Williston – Motorists will encounter lane shifts near the intersection of U.S. 2 and Industrial Ave for an ongoing intersection improvement project.
Motorists will also see one-way alternating traffic at the Muddy Brook Bridge along Kimball/Marshall Ave.
Williston Park and Ride – Construction of a new park and ride facility along VT 2A near the I-89 Exit 12 interchange is underway. Excavation operations will require periods of alternating traffic on VT 2A throughout the week.
Wilmington – Brattleboro – A resurfacing project continues on VT 9. Motorists can expect alternating one-way traffic as crews reset guardrail and conduct drainage work in Marlboro, and continue asphalt milling in Brattleboro working west.
Woodford – A ledge stabilization project is underway on VT 9. Intermittent traffic holds are anticipated throughout the week. Delays may occur. Eastbound traffic is reduced to one lane; a lane shift for westbound traffic is in place through November. Motorists are urged to lower speeds when coming down the hill into the project area. A speed reduction to 35 mph is in place.
