AOT Road Construction Report Week of September 20

Vermont Agency of Transportation This weekly report for the week of September 20, 2021, is a list of planned construction activities that will have traffic impacts on state highways throughout Vermont. Please remember to drive safely in all work zones. Lives depend on it.

Interstates

I-89 Berlin – The bridge deck replacement project continues. Lane and speed reductions are in place; crossovers are being utilized. Motorists should expect a slowing of traffic on VT 62 throughout the week.

I-89 Hartford – Sharon – A resurfacing project continues. Work will occur day and night this week, with lane reductions in the vicinity of active construction. A speed reduction to 55 mph will be enforced when lane closures are in effect.

I-89 Middlesex – A culvert project is underway. Most work will occur off the roadway, but motorists should expect shoulder closures, reduced speeds, and occasional lane closures to allow for construction vehicles in/out of the work area.

I-89 Sharon – A bridge rehabilitation project continues. Traffic is reduced to one lane in each direction; crossovers are being utilized. Motorists: be aware of a work zone speed reduction.

I-89 White River Junction – Our partners at NHDOT are working on a multi-year bridge replacement project on I-89 over the Connecticut River. Motorists should expect lane and speed reductions over the bridge.

I-91 Fairlee – A culvert replacement project is underway just north of Exit 15. Motorists should expect lane-width restrictions and speed reductions in the area.

I-91 Hartford – Motorists will encounter continuous lane closures on I-91 in both directions between Exits 12 and 11 as crews continue bridge repair operations.

I-91 Rockingham –The bridge replacement project nears completion. Both northbound and southbound travel lanes are open to traffic. Expect narrow lanes; please use caution.

I-91 Weathersfield – A bridge deck replacement project continues at Exit 8. Lane and speed reductions are in effect in each direction as southbound traffic is merged to the northbound bridge using a crossover. Expect one-way alternating traffic on VT 131 this week.

Around the State

Berkshire – A culvert replacement project is wrapping up along VT 118 just north of its intersection with VT 105. Two-way traffic is now open over the newly constructed roadway.

Burlington – Work on the Shelburne Street Roundabout project is underway. A new traffic pattern is in place along U.S. 7 (Shelburne Street) between Flynn Ave and the intersections with St. Paul Street/Union Street and Beech Street. U.S. 7 northbound traffic is reduced to one lane beginning at Flynn Ave.

Motorists should expect lane closures and one-way traffic (eastbound) on Locust Street, Monday through Friday, 6:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Gove Court will be closed to non-residents. Also, on Tuesday, 09/21, Shelburne Street (southbound) will be reduced to one lane through to the intersection with Prospect Parkway

Burlington – South Burlington – Work is wrapping up on the concrete slab rehabilitation project on U.S. 7 and the Westbound I-189 off ramp. Minimal traffic impacts anticipated.

Burlington Waterfront - The AMTRAK/Greenway project continues. College Street remains closed to vehicular traffic at the waterfront rail crossing. The reopening of the roadway has been delayed and is now expected to occur mid-to-late week.

Calais – A bridge replacement project is underway along VT 14 just south of its intersection with Pekin Brook Road. Motorists will encounter one-way alternating traffic controlled by flaggers during the day, with a traffic light at the bridge during off hours. Expect some delays.

Castleton – Motorists will encounter lane closures with alternating traffic at the intersection of VT 30 and VT 4A for a sidewalk construction project.

Cavendish – Weathersfield – A roadway reclaim project nears completion on VT 131. Motorists should expect alternating one-way traffic in the vicinity of multiple operations. Plan on reduced speeds and some delays.

Chelsea – Thetford – A resurfacing project continues along VT 113. Motorists should expect delays as crews pave the intermediate wearing course.

Chester – Springfield – Multiple bridge replacement projects are underway on VT 11 between VT 103 in Chester and VT 106 in Springfield. Expect one-way alternating traffic at multiple points along this route, with minor delays in several locations.

Essex – Motorists will encounter two-way traffic with lane shifts along VT 117 at its intersection with VT 289; traffic control will be present to allow construction vehicles in/out of the area.

The westbound VT 289 on-ramp remains closed; motorists will be shifted to the VT 289 eastbound ramp.

Fayston – Motorists will encounter areas of one-way alternating traffic along VT 17 as crews continue line striping, shoulder installation, and bridge joint work.

Groton – Newbury – Motorists should expect alternating one-way traffic on U.S. 302 with minimal delays as crews continue rehabilitating drop inlets and work on guardrail installation.

Hartford – Motorists should expect minimal traffic impacts on U.S. 4 and VT 14 as crews continue curb, sidewalk, and signal work during the day, with paving expected Wednesday and Thursday night.

Motorists can also expect delays along Sykes Mountain Avenue and U.S. 5, Sunday -Thursday night from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. for milling operations. Minimal impacts during the day.

Hartland – A bridge deck replacement project is underway along VT 12 over Lulls Brook. A multi-week closure of the bridge is in effect. A signed detour utilizing U.S. 4 and U.S. 5 is in place. Please plan accordingly.

Johnson – A slope remediation project continues along VT 15 next to the Lamoille River. Motorists should expect one-way alternating traffic with minimal delays in the project area.

Johnson – Morristown – Motorists should expect one-lane of alternating traffic with delays on VT 15 during the day as crews conduct paving from the Morristown roundabout moving east. Crews will also work one night this week to pave VT 100 and VT 15 near the signalized intersection. The exact date of nighttime work is weather dependent.

Middlebury – Travelers can expect alternating travel lanes during evening construction hours (7:00 p.m. – 6:00 a.m., Sunday– Thursday) on VT 125, VT 30, U.S. 7, Court Square, and Main Street. Motorists should expect delays and limited road markings while paving work is being completed.

Motorists should also exercise caution when entering and exiting the Marble Works on Middle Seymour Street due to continued construction on the Amtrak rail platform.

North Hero – Grand Isle – Drawbridge construction continues along U.S. 2 - day and night. A speed reduction remains in place. Mariners: the drawbridge will open at the top of the hour between 8:00 a.m. and 8:00 p.m. each day. Pittsford – Multiple roadway reconstruction activities on U.S. 7. One-way alternating traffic at times throughout the week, creating moderate delays. Motorists should proceed with caution through new traffic patterns and lane shifts. A speed reduction to 35 mph remains in effect.

Plymouth – A multi-week closure of VT-100 between U.S. 4 and VT 100A is in place. Traffic will be rerouted from the south side to VT 100A and from the north side to U.S. 4. Through-traffic is not permitted.

Plymouth – Bridgewater – Expect one-way alternating traffic with delays along VT 100A for guardrail work and paving from 6:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m., Monday – Friday.

Proctor – North Street remains closed to through-traffic at the location of the bridge project over the Vermont Railway until mid-October. A signed detour is in place.

Richford – Jay – Motorists should expect one lane of alternating traffic along VT 105 in multiple locations as paving is set to begin, resulting in delays.

Ripton - A roadway and streambank stabilization project on VT 125 is underway. A one-way alternating traffic pattern will be in effect at times throughout the week resulting in minor delays.

Rockingham – Our partners at NHDOT are working on a rehabilitation project on the Church Street Bridge connecting Vermont and New Hampshire. Motorists should expect intermittent, alternating one-way traffic and some delays.

Shelburne – So. Burlington – A series of signal improvements continues along U.S. 7 at intersections between McIntosh Avenue and Swift Street. Motorists should expect nighttime lane closures in the areas of operation.

Springfield – A roadway resurfacing project is wrapping up along VT 106 and VT 10. Expect one-way alternating traffic in various locations and plan on minor delays.

Williston – Due to the closure of Muddy Brook Bridge on Kimball/Marshall Avenue, motorists on U.S. 2 will see an increase in traffic interruptions and should expect extended delays during peak commute hours in the morning and evening. Plan for extra travel time through the area.

Nightwork this week along U.S 2 near its intersection with Industrial Avenue. Motorists will encounter a temporary detour in the area, and should plan on lane closures from 7 p.m. – 6 a.m.

Wilmington – Brattleboro – A resurfacing project is underway along VT 9. Motorists can expect alternating one-way traffic with flaggers as crews continue drainage and slope work in Wilmington working towards Marlboro. Please note: a speed reduction is in place.

Winooski – A concrete slab rehabilitation project is wrapping up along U.S. 7 and West Allen St. (the Winooski Circulator). Minimal traffic impacts anticipated.

Woodford – A ledge stabilization project continues on VT 9. Eastbound traffic is reduced to one lane; a lane shift for westbound traffic is in place through November. A speed reduction is also in effect. Brief periods of flagged traffic this week to allow trucks in and out of the construction zone. Expect minor delays.
