AOT Road Construction Report Week of September 6

This weekly report is a list of planned construction activities that will have traffic impacts on state highways throughout Vermont. Construction crews will be off on Monday, September 6, in observance of Labor Day. Please remember to drive safely in all work zones. Lives depend on it.

Interstates

I-89 Berlin – The bridge deck replacement project continues. Lane and speed reductions are in place in each direction; crossovers are being utilized. Motorists should expect a slowing of traffic on VT 62 throughout the week.

I-89 Hartford Sharon – A resurfacing project continues. Work will occur both day and night this week, with lane reductions in the vicinity of active construction. A speed reduction to 55 mph will be enforced when lane closures are in effect.

I-89 Sharon – A bridge rehabilitation project continues. Traffic is reduced to one lane in each direction; crossovers are being utilized. Motorists: be aware of a work zone speed reduction.

I-89 White River Junction – Our partners at NHDOT are working on a multi-year bridge replacement project on I-89 over the Connecticut River. Motorists should expect lane and speed reductions over the bridge.

I-91 Fairlee – A culvert replacement project is underway just north of Exit 15. Motorists should expect lane-width restrictions and speed reductions in the area.

I-91 Hartford – Motorists will encounter continuous lane closures on I-91 in both directions between Exits 12 and 11 as crews continue bridge repair operations.

I-91 Rockingham –The bridge replacement project nears completion. Both northbound and southbound travel lanes are open to traffic. Expect narrow lanes; please use caution.

I-91 Weathersfield – A bridge deck replacement project continues at Exit 8. Lane and speed reductions are in effect in each direction as southbound traffic is merged to the northbound bridge using a crossover. Flagged traffic on VT 131 this week may cause some delays.Around the State

Berkshire – A culvert replacement project continues along VT 118 just north of its intersection with VT 105. A detour around the project site remains in place.

Burlington – Work on the Shelburne Street Roundabout project is underway. A new traffic pattern is in place along U.S. 7 (Shelburne St) between Flynn Ave and the intersections with St. Paul Street/Union Street and Beech Street. U.S. 7 northbound traffic is reduced to one lane beginning at Flynn Ave.

Motorists should expect lane closures and one-way traffic (eastbound) on Locust Street, Tuesday through Friday, 6:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Gove Court will be closed to non-residents.

Burlington – South Burlington – Work has resumed on the concrete slab rehabilitation project on U.S. 7 and the Westbound I-189 off ramp. Lane closures are in effect. Traffic will be maintained with a single lane in each direction.

Burlington Waterfront - The AMTRAK/Greenway project continues. College Street is currently closed to vehicular traffic at the waterfront rail crossing. The road will reopen to traffic on Friday, 9/17. Bike and pedestrian access will be maintained.

Calais – A bridge replacement project is underway along VT 14 just south of its intersection with Pekin Brook Road. Motorists will encounter one-way alternating traffic controlled by flaggers during the day, with a traffic light at the bridge during off hours. Expect some delays.

Cavendish – Weathersfield – A roadway reclaim project nears completion on VT 131. Motorists should expect alternating one-way traffic in the vicinity of multiple operations. Plan on reduced speeds and some delays.

Chelsea – Thetford – A resurfacing project continues along VT 113. Motorists will encounter grooved pavement, loose gravel, and limited pavement markings throughout the project limits. Plan on delays.

Chester – Springfield – Multiple bridge replacement projects are underway on VT 11 between VT 103 in Chester and VT 106 in Springfield. Expect one-way alternating traffic at multiple points along this route, with minor delays in several locations.

Essex – Expect one-way alternating traffic along VT 117 at its intersection with VT 289 from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Plan on delays. Two-way traffic with lane shifts will then be in place for the rest of the week; be aware of varied road surfaces heading westbound.

The westbound VT 289 on-ramp remains closed; motorists will be shifted to the VT 289 eastbound ramp.

Fair Haven – A culvert rehabilitation project is set to begin on U.S. 4. Motorists can expect to encounter single-lane closures heading eastbound between Exits 2 and 3.

Fair Haven – Rutland – Motorists may encounter single-lane closures in multiple locations on U.S. 4 in both directions this week as crews work on the last stages of the paving project.

Fayston – A paving project is underway along VT 17. Motorists will encounter areas of one-way alternating traffic as crews work on paving operations this week.

Groton – Newbury – Motorists should expect alternating one-way traffic on U.S. 302 with minimal delays as crews continue rehabilitating drop inlets and work on guardrail and sign installation.

Hartford – Motorists should expect minimal traffic impacts on U.S. 4 and VT 14 as crews work on signal systems and sidewalks.

Motorists can also expect minimal impacts along Sykes Mountain Avenue and U.S. 5 for sidewalk installation and shoulder work.

Hartland – A bridge deck replacement project is underway along VT 12 over Lulls Brook. A multi-week closure of the bridge will begin at 7:00 a.m. on Tuesday, 09/07. A signed detour utilizing U.S. 4 and U.S. 5 will be in place. Please plan accordingly.

Johnson – A slope remediation project continues along VT 15. Motorists should expect one-way alternating traffic with minimal delays in the project area.

Johnson Morristown – Motorists should expect traffic delays and areas of gravel roadway on VT 15 and VT 15A as crews continue the second reclamation pass. There will be daywork throughout the week, with nightwork on Wednesday and Thursday for milling operations along VT 100 between its intersections with VT 15 and Professional Drive.

Middlebury – Travelers can expect alternating lanes of travel during evening construction hours on U.S. 7, Main Street, and Cross Street for paving operations, Tuesday - Thursday night (09/07-09/09). Motorists should use caution when traveling through work zones due to raised structures.

Motorists should also exercise caution when entering and exiting the Marble Works on Middle Seymour Street due to continued construction on the Amtrak rail platform.

Newbury – A bridge replacement project is wrapping up just north of the junction of Boltonville Rd. and U.S. 302. Expect one-way alternating traffic at the bridge throughout the week.

North Hero – Grand Isle – Drawbridge construction continues along U.S. 2 - day and night. A speed reduction remains in place. Mariners: the drawbridge will open at the top of the hour between 8:00 a.m. and 8:00 p.m. each day. Pittsford – Multiple roadway reconstruction activities on U.S. 7. One-way alternating traffic at times throughout the week, creating moderate delays. Motorists should proceed with caution through new traffic patterns and lane shifts. A speed reduction to 35 mph remains in effect.

Plymouth – A multi-week closure of VT-100 between U.S. 4 and VT 100A is in place. Traffic will be rerouted from the south side to VT 100A and from the north side to U.S. 4. Through-traffic is not permitted.

Plymouth – Bridgewater – Expect one-way alternating traffic controlled by flaggers with some delays along VT 100A for milling and guardrail work during the day.

Proctor – North Street remains closed to through-traffic at the location of the bridge project over the Vermont Railway until mid-October. A signed detour is in place.

Richford – Jay – Motorists should expect one lane of alternating traffic along VT 105 in multiple locations, resulting in delays.

Rockingham – Our partners at NHDOT are working on a rehabilitation project on the Church Street Bridge connecting Vermont and New Hampshire. Motorists should expect intermittent, alternating one-way traffic and some delays.

Shelburne – So. Burlington – Site restoration for signal improvements along U.S. 7 at intersections between McIntosh Avenue and Swift Street. Motorists should expect nighttime lane closures in the areas of operation.

Springfield – A roadway resurfacing project is underway along VT 106 and VT 10. Expect one-way alternating traffic in various locations and plan on delays.

Williston – Due to the closure of Muddy Brook Bridge on Kimball/Marshall Avenue, motorists on U.S. 2 will see an increase in traffic interruptions and should expect extended delays during peak commute hours in the morning and evening. Plan for extra travel time through the area.

Motorists will also encounter a temporary detour with lane shifts along U.S. 2 near its intersection with Industrial Avenue for an intersection improvement project.

Wilmington – Brattleboro – A resurfacing project begins along VT 9. Motorists can expect alternating one-way traffic with flaggers as crews begin drainage and slope work in Wilmington working towards Brattleboro.

Winooski – A concrete slab rehabilitation project continues along U.S. 7 and West Allen St. (the Winooski Circulator). Work is scheduled for Tuesday - Thursday nights (09/07-09/09). Expect lane closures from 7:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m.

Woodford – A ledge stabilization project is underway on VT 9. Eastbound traffic is reduced to one lane; a lane shift for westbound traffic is in place through November. Motorists should expect flagged traffic throughout the week. A traffic hold is tentatively planned for Thursday, 09/09 from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. for blasting operations. Delays will occur.
