AOT Road Construction Report Week of November 8

Agency of Transportation This weekly report is a list of planned construction activities for the week of November 8 that will have traffic impacts on state highways throughout Vermont. Please remember to drive safely in all work zones. Lives depend on it.

Interstates

I-89 Berlin – The bridge deck replacement project nears completion. Motorists will encounter lane reductions in both directions in the early part of the week. Be aware of a work zone speed reduction.

I-89 Middlesex – A culvert project is underway. Most work will occur off the roadway, but motorists should expect shoulder closures, reduced speeds, and occasional lane closures between 9:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. to allow for construction vehicles in/out of the work area.

I-89 Sharon – A bridge rehabilitation project continues. Traffic is reduced to one lane in each direction. Motorists; be aware of a work zone speed reduction.

I-89 White River Junction – Our partners at NHDOT are working on a multi-year bridge replacement project on I-89 over the Connecticut River. Motorists should expect lane and speed reductions over the bridge.

I-91 Hartford – Motorists will encounter continuous lane closures on I-91 in both directions between Exits 12 and 11 as bridge repair operations continue.

I-91 Weathersfield – A bridge deck replacement project is underway at Exit 8 over VT 131. Traffic is reduced to one lane in each direction, with a speed reduction in place.

Around the State

Addison – VT 125 is closed just south of its intersection with VT 17 due to a washout of the roadway. The closure is expected to be in place until further notice.

Berlin – On Wednesday, 11/10, VT 12 will be closed between Chandler Rd. and Crosstown Rd. for bridge work. The closure will be in place from 8:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Please plan accordingly.

Bradford – U.S. 5 just south of Lake Morey Rd. has been reopened following a culvert replacement. Motorists should still proceed with caution in the area as crews work on guardrail repair and other maintenance activities.

Burlington – A detour route is currently in place for motorists to avoid significant traffic delays along U.S. 7 (Shelburne Street) between Flynn Ave and Howard St. The detour will divert traffic from U.S. 7 along Flynn Ave, Pine St., and Howard St. Motorists should also expect alternating one-way traffic on U.S. 7 between Locust St. and Adam’s Ct., Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. U.S. 7 continues to be closed to non-local traffic from the intersection with South Willard St. to the intersection with St. Paul/South Union St.

Burlington Waterfront – Minimal traffic impacts are expected this week as the AMTRAK/Greenway project continues.

Cavendish – Weathersfield – A roadway project is nearing completion on VT 131. Motorists should expect alternating one-way traffic at times throughout the project area. Minor delays may occur. A work-zone speed reduction remains in effect.

Chelsea – Thetford – A resurfacing project continues on VT 113. Motorists should expect delays and up to three traffic control packages as crews install guardrails and conduct stone ditching and drainage work.

Fair Haven – Castleton – Motorists should expect shoulder closures along U.S 4 eastbound for a traffic sign replacement project.

Fairlee – Starting Monday, 11/08, U.S. 5 will be closed approx. 0.4 miles north of its intersection with Mountain Road. The closure will be in place for at least one week to replace a failed culvert deep beneath the roadway. Message boards are in place to guide motorists around the closure area.

Chester – Springfield – Multiple bridge replacement projects are underway on VT 11 between VT 103 in Chester and VT 106 in Springfield. Expect one-way alternating traffic at multiple points along this route, with minor delays in several locations.

Groton – Newbury – Motorists should expect alternating one-way traffic on U.S. 302 with moderate delays as crews continue paving side roads and driveway aprons from Ryegate to Groton and conduct shoulder work from Newbury to Groton.

Hartford – Motorists should expect lane closures and intermittent alternating one-way traffic as crews work at the intersection of U.S. 4, U.S. 5, and VT 14. Crews will also finish installing pavement markings throughout the project limits.

Johnson Morristown Motorists should expect multiple traffic control packages and delays along VT 15 as crews continue paving the wearing course, sideroads and driveway aprons. Crews will also install centerline rumble strips and place the centerline, edge line, and markings along paved sideroads.

North Hero – Grand Isle – Drawbridge construction continues along U.S. 2. A speed reduction is in place. Mariners: The drawbridge has suspended its daily operating schedule until May 15, 2022. To request an opening or to communicate with the bridge tender, please use Channel 13 or call 802-372-4360.

Pittsford – Multiple roadway reconstruction activities continue on U.S. 7. Expect intermittent one-way alternating traffic; delays may occur. Motorists should proceed with caution through new traffic patterns and lane shifts. A speed reduction to 35 mph remains in effect.

Plymouth – The closure of VT-100 between U.S. 4 and VT 100A is in place through the last week of November. Traffic continues to be rerouted from the south side to VT 100A and from the north side to U.S. 4. Through-traffic is not permitted.

Proctor – Expect one-way alternating traffic on the North Street bridge this week as the project wraps up.

Richford – A bridge replacement project continues along VT 105 approximately one mile south of its intersection with Main Street and River Street. Motorists will now be detoured onto the temporary bridge.

Shelburne – So. Burlington – A series of signal improvements continues along U.S. 7 at intersections between McIntosh Avenue and Swift Street. Motorists should expect nighttime lane closures in the areas of operation.

Swanton – Highgate – A series of culvert replacements continues along U.S. 7. Motorists should expect areas of one-way alternating traffic and reduced lane widths.

West Haven – Orwell – Motorists can expect single-lane traffic and minor delays along VT 22A as crews continue spot shimming and rut fill activities in West Haven progressing north.

Williston – Due to the closure of Muddy Brook Bridge on Kimball/Marshall Avenue, motorists on U.S. 2 will see an increase in traffic interruptions and should expect extended delays during peak commute hours in the morning and evening. Plan on extra travel time through the area. Motorists will also encounter new lane shifts near the intersection of U.S. 2 and Industrial Ave.

Wilmington – Brattleboro – A resurfacing project is underway on VT 9. Motorists can expect alternating one-way traffic as crews continue drainage work in Marlboro moving towards Brattleboro. Crews will also be paving the culvert crossings and shoulder at the widening near South Road.

Woodford – A ledge stabilization project continues on VT 9. A traffic hold for blasting operations is scheduled for Monday, 11/08. Traffic will be held for up to 15 minutes between 9:00-11:00 a.m. Eastbound traffic has been reduced to one lane, with a lane shift for Westbound traffic in place through November. A work-zone speed reduction to 35 mph is also in effect.
