Stowe celebrates National Travel and Tourism Week

Annual celebration of the U.S. travel industry focuses on “The Power of Travel”; Stowe area businesses are offering special promotions and giveaways all week long.

Stowe Area Association (SAA) is saluting local hospitality from May 2 – 8 during National Travel and Tourism Week (NTTW), an annual celebration of the contributions of the U.S. travel industry. This year, NTTW spotlights the critical role that travel will play in driving economic recovery efforts and building the path forward through the theme, “Power of Travel.”

“NTTW is an annual tradition where travel and tourism professionals across the country unite to celebrate the value travel holds for our economy, businesses and personal well-being,” said Carrie Simmons, executive director, Stowe Area Association. “Stowe thrives off tourism, but we would not be the destination we are without everything that makes Stowe so special: independently-owned businesses, endless outdoor recreation, our food and craft beverage scene, small-town charm, a sense of community, and that's just naming a few.”

National Travel and Tourism Week is a chance to celebrate all of these things throughout multiple theme days, as well as highlight those whose make our industry what it is: town leadership, business owners, our visitors, and our community.
“While we were not able to make any in-person events happen this year, several area businesses are offering special promotions and giveaways all week long. Get out and help us celebrate this incredible industry by supporting the Stowe hospitality industry and community that makes our destination so special!” added Simmons.

Celebrated annually the first full week in May, NTTW was created by Congress in 1983 to elevate the economic power of travel in the U.S. The 38th annual NTTW arrives at an opportune moment to recognize the importance to the U.S. economy of initiating a post-pandemic travel recovery.

“NTTW takes on a special significance this year as the travel industry looks to rebound quickly from the pandemic and accelerate recovery efforts,” said U.S. Travel Association President and CEO Roger Dow. “The past year was incredibly challenging, but we saw the full power of the travel industry on display in the way we united and supported one another through this crisis.”

“Before the pandemic, travel generated $2.6 trillion in economic output, supported 17 million American jobs and delivered a $51 billion trade surplus to the U.S.—evidence of the outsized role the industry will play in America’s broader economic recovery,” said Dow.
