Vermont Business Magazine The Central Vermont Solid Waste Management District (CVSWMD) has been recognized by Call2Recycle as a 2020 Top 100 Leader in Sustainability for diverting more than 8,400 pounds of batteries from the landfill. The Leader in Sustainability award is given out annually to top performing Call2Recycle program participants who excel with their battery recycling efforts.
In 2020, more than 8.4 million pounds of consumer batteries were collected and recycled through Call2Recycle–a program milestone. CVSWMD’s commitment to battery recycling, even amidst the backdrop of the COVID-19 pandemic, contributed to landmark collections.
“The last year presented unimaginable global, national and local challenges to almost every industry, including battery recycling,” said Leo Raudys, CEO & President of Call2Recycle, Inc. “In the face of uncertainty, we witnessed the tenacity and passion of partners like CVSWMD who continued their involvement with the Call2Recycle program. We thank CVSWMD for their ardent support and are proud to list them as a 2020 Leader in Sustainability.”
Call2Recycle is recognizing CVSWMD for its commitment to battery recycling through a tree donation to the National Forest Foundation’s ‘50 Million for Our Forests’ campaign. CVSWMD collects batteries for recycling at its Additional Recyclables Collection Center (ARCC) in Barre City. To see the full list of more than 3-dozen hard-to-recycle items accepted at the ARCC, plus hours and fees, go to cvswmd.org/arcc.
“Vermonters buy over 10 million batteries every year that aren’t blue bin recyclable or trash,” said CVSWMD General Manager, Lisa Liotta. “Batteries contain valuable materials and can be harmful if not managed properly. At CVSWMD, we’re proud to partner with Call2Recycle and help residents ensure that their batteries are recycled safely, and responsibly.”
