Grant supports anti-racism education in Farm to School

Vermont Business Magazine When the Agency of Agriculture, Food & Markets announced the new farm to school Vision Grant opportunity this past winter, we were looking to support innovative, community-led initiatives that would expand on the many traditional benefits of farm to school. The proposals we received far exceeded our expectations and confirmed what so many already know - that farm to school is a powerful lever for creating positive change across many different and intersecting types of social, cultural and economic issues.

After completing the difficult task of reviewing all of the incredible proposals, we are excited to announce that South Hero Land Trust (SHLT) is the first recipient of the farm to school Vision Grant. Over the next two years, SHLT, in collaboration with the Folsom Education and Community Center, will use the grant to explore the integration of anti-racist education with their Farm to School program. Using the lenses of storytelling, art, music, agriculture, food, and land stewardship, students and teachers will learn from and engage with the stories and experiences of Black, Indigenous, and People of Color in Vermont, connecting anti-racist learning to the students’ farm, food, and nature based studies.
