Exhibits on the American Revolution, Abenaki culture, and small watercraft open in time for 4th of July weekend
Vermont Business Magazine Lake Champlain Maritime Museum announced today that they are re-opening select indoor exhibit buildings starting this Friday, July 2. Just in time for long weekend and 4th of July holiday, included among the indoor exhibits re-opening is the museum’s signature exhibit Key to Liberty: The American Revolution on Lake Champlain which explores the important local connections and regional history from the Revolutionary War. The museum’s free admission extends to these indoor experiences, which will be open along with the rest of the museum’s outdoor exhibits every day from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Starting on Friday, visitors will be able to step inside and explore the following indoor exhibits:
• Key to Liberty: The American Revolution on Lake Champlain, explores local connections to our nation’s fight for independence and how a naval battle on Lake Champlain changed the outcome of the Revolutionary War.
• Nebizun: Water is Life, located in the museum’s historic schoolhouse building, is an exhibit by the Vermont Abenaki Artists Association which brings together works by Abenaki artists and artisans of the Champlain Valley to illustrate the Abenaki relationship to water and its importance to the health of the world.
• Hazelett Small Watercraft Center, a two-story exhibit space, presents the history of small human-powered watercraft on Lake Champlain, including the towering Storm King ice yacht.
In addition, the museum will be holding a book sale over the holiday weekend in the museum store featuring a unique assortment of collector and history books for those interested in maritime stories and regional history. The museum’s replica canal schooner Lois McClure will be open to visitors on Friday and Saturday, weather permitting.
