Forecasters Predict Heavy Wet Snow and Potential for Strong Winds Starting Early Saturday
Vermont Business Magazine Green Mountain Power (GMP) is reminding customers to be alert to the forecast, as meteorologists say there is a growing likelihood that precipitation heading towards Vermont may fall as heavy, wet snow with the potential to take down trees and power lines, causing scattered outages. Mid and high elevation areas along the spine of the Green Mountains from Washington County south are at risk with Southern Vermont currently in the bullseye of this winter storm, according to the latest weather models which increase the possibility of outages.
“We want customers to be safe. We follow multiple forecasts so we can alert customers, and to be able to respond as quickly as we safely can,” said Mike Burke, Chief of Field Operations at GMP. “If lines are down, you should always assume they are energized and stay far away. Downed trees can also have lines tangled in them and customers should also stay well away for safety.”
In preparation for any storm, some good items to have on hand are a fully charged cell phone, bottled water, battery-powered flashlights, emergency phone numbers, and a plan of where to go if you were to need to leave your home.
