National TV crew to film winter sports in Vermont

Vermont Business Magazine The Okemo Valley Chamber of Commerce along with Explore New England, Visit New England and Boston.com have partnered on a variety of tourism initiatives over the last few months to promote the South-Central region of Vermont. To date, projects have included landing pages on the Visit New England, and Explore New England websites that reach millions each year, social media posts, and newsletter blasts that go to hundreds of thousands of folks interested in traveling to Vermont.

This weekend (Feb 6-8), as part of the continuing collaboration, the Explore New England production crew headed by host and producer Tom Richardson will be in the Okemo Valley Region from Saturday to Monday to film an episode of their TV series, which airs on the New England Sports Network (NESN) home of the Red Sox/Bruins that reaches over 5 million homes.

The episode will be part of ENE TV's second season, which premieres this June and runs through December. Footage from the show will likely also be used in Explore New England's popular short film series, with distribution through YouTube and Facebook video.

The ENE team is scheduled to kick things off on Saturday at Magic Mountain, where they will interview and ski with president Geoff Hatheway, who will describe the ski resort's history and current amenities.

In the afternoon, ENE will film an ice-fishing segment with Vermont guide Matt Trombly on one of the area's lakes. Trombly will describe the ice-fishing process and how to comfortably and safely fish the local lakes and ponds. Hopefully, a few fish will cooperate for the cameras.

Sunday's schedule includes a visit to the Grafton Trails & Outdoor Center and an interview and trail ride with manager Bob Culver. That will be followed by an afternoon tour of the Echo Lake Inn and an interview with manager Tom Gianola, who will talk about the history of the venerable inn and restaurant, which will also be featured in the show.

Monday brings a snowmobile trip with Lee Ellsworth Whiting and other members of the Chester Snowmobile Club. Whiting and crew have promised an exciting ride on the VAST trail system with stops at several scenic spots.
