NOFA-VT hosts 6th annual Farmer Olympics at Honeyfield Farm August 31

Vermont Business Magazine On August 31st, farmers and farm crews from around Vermont are coming together at Honeyfield Farm in Norwich for the NOFA-VT’s sixth annual Farmer Olympics.

Farm teams will show off their finely-honed skills in events ranging from physical to cerebral to just plain ridiculous. Past events have included the giant marshmallow (i.e. wrapped hay bale) roll, the zucchini relay, squash shot put, and blindfolded partner seeding.

This is the sixth year the Northeast Organic Association of Vermont (NOFA-VT) is facilitating the event for the farmer community. Some of the participating farms this year include the host farm, Honey Field, as well as Rock Bottom Farm in Strafford, Sunrise Farm in White River Junction, Root 5 Farm in Fairlee, and Agricola Farm in Panton.

“The Farmer Olympics are all about joy, celebration, and connection,” said Zea Luce, NOFA-VT’s Events & Engagement Coordinator, “and this year, after the challenges farmers faced over the last 18 months, this event is really needed. We’re looking forward to reconnecting with folks and unwinding before the busy fall harvest season sets in.”

NOFA-VT’s pizza oven will be on site providing farmer-olympians wood-fired pizza. Awards will be handed out to the best performing teams. Farms are encouraged to sign up their teams here.

While the event is exclusively for farmers, the public is encouraged to watch NOFA-VT’s Instagram for live updates.
