AOT Road Construction Report Week of August 16

Vermont Agency of Transportation This weekly report is a list of planned construction activities that will have traffic impacts on state highways throughout Vermont starting August 16. Please remember to drive safely in all work zones. Lives depend on it.

Interstates

I-89 Berlin – The bridge deck replacement project continues. Lane and speed reductions are in place in each direction; crossovers are being utilized.

I-89 Hartford Sharon – A resurfacing project continues. Operations will require lane reductions in the vicinity of active construction. A speed reduction to 55 mph will be enforced when lane closures are in effect. Night work will occur on Tuesday, 8/17 north of the I-89/I-91 interchanges.

I-89 Sharon – A bridge rehabilitation project is underway. Traffic is reduced to one lane in each direction; crossovers are being utilized. Motorists: be aware of a work zone speed reduction.

I-89 Sharon – Bethel – Motorists should exercise caution as a resurfacing project wraps up in both directions near Exit 3 in Bethel.

I-89 White River Junction – Our partners at NHDOT are working on a multi-year bridge replacement project on I-89 over the Connecticut River. Motorists should expect lane and speed reductions over the bridge.

I-91 Hartford – Motorists will encounter continuous lane closures on I-91 in both directions between Exits 12 and 11 as crews continue bridge repair operations.

I-91 Rockingham –The bridge replacement project continues. Both northbound and southbound travel lanes are open to traffic. Expect narrow lanes; please use caution.

I-91 Weathersfield – A bridge deck replacement project continues at Exit 8. Lane and speed reductions are in effect in each direction as southbound traffic is merged to the northbound bridge using a crossover.

Around the State

Bakersfield – Plan on areas of one-way alternating traffic on VT 108 as crews work on sidewalk improvements.

Berkshire – A culvert replacement project continues along VT 118 just north of its intersection with VT 105. A detour around the project site remains in place.

Burlington – Work on the Shelburne Street Roundabout project is underway. A new traffic pattern is in place along U.S. 7 (Shelburne St) between Flynn Ave and the intersections with St. Paul Street/Union Street and Beech Street. U.S. 7 northbound traffic will remain reduced to one lane beginning at Flynn Ave.

Motorists should also expect lane closures and intermittent one-way traffic on Locust Street and Gove Court throughout the week.

Burlington Waterfront - The AMTRAK/Greenway project continues. A long-term closure to vehicular traffic at the waterfront rail crossing will go into effect on Friday, 8/20. The road will reopen to vehicular traffic on Friday, 9/17. Bike and pedestrian access will be maintained.

Calais – A bridge replacement project is underway along VT 14 just south of its intersection with Pekin Brook Road. Motorists will encounter one-way alternating traffic controlled by flaggers during the day, with a traffic light at the bridge during off hours. Expect some delays.

Cavendish – Weathersfield – A roadway reclaim project progresses along VT 131. Motorists should expect alternating one-way traffic in the vicinity of multiple operations. Plan on delays.

Chelsea – Thetford – A resurfacing project continues along VT 113. Motorists should expect grooved pavement, loose gravel, and limited pavement markings throughout the project limits. Plan on delays.

Chester – Springfield – Multiple bridge replacement projects are underway on VT 11 between VT 103 in Chester and VT 106 in Springfield. Expect one-way alternating traffic at multiple points along this route, with minor delays in several locations.

Colchester – Essex – Expect lane closures near the intersection of VT 15 and Lime Kiln Road from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. for the multi-use path project. Pedestrian access will be maintained.

Enosburgh – Motorists are now traveling over the new bridge along VT 118. Be aware of truck traffic moving in/out of the area as crews work on removing the temporary detour.

Essex – The westbound VT 289 on-ramp remains closed; motorists will be shifted to the VT 289 eastbound ramp. Traffic continues to be shifted along VT 117 at its intersection with VT 289. A speed reduction is in place. Motorists should be aware of construction vehicles moving in/out of the project area.

Fair Haven – Rutland – Expect single-lane closures on U.S. 4 Eastbound for various bridge, line striping, and sign work. Motorists are advised to use caution while traveling through multiple construction zones.

Fayston – A paving project is underway along VT 17. Motorists will encounter areas of one-way alternating traffic as crews work on guardrail, berm removal, and ditching operations.

Groton – Newbury – Motorists should expect alternating one-way traffic on U.S. 302 with delays as crews work on paving, guardrail, signage, and ditching operations.

Hartford – Motorists should expect lane closures and intermittent alternating one-way traffic on U.S. 4 and VT 14 as crews work on paving operations. Plan on delays.

Motorists can also expect lane closures and traffic delays along Sykes Mountain Avenue and U.S. 5 as work continues on the roundabout and sidewalk project.

Johnson – A slope remediation project begins along VT 15 this week. Motorists should expect one-way alternating traffic with minor delays.

Johnson Morristown – Motorists should expect traffic delays and areas of gravel roadway on VT 15 and VT 15A as crews continue reclamation work and place gravel.

Middlebury – Travelers can expect alternating lanes of travel during evening construction hours on VT 125, Cross Street, U.S. 7, and Main Street for paving operations.

Nighttime milling work for the Bridge & Rail project this week starting at 6:00 PM on Tuesday, 08/17 – Thursday, 08/19. Milling will begin in the Marble Works, with flaggers managing traffic. Merchants Row will then be closed to motorists, and Main Street will be limited to alternating one-lane traffic. Please plan accordingly.

Newbury – A bridge replacement project is underway just north of the junction of Boltonville Rd. and U.S. 302. A full closure at the location of the bridge is in place; a local signed detour is in effect. The bridge will reopen in October.

North Hero – Grand Isle – Drawbridge construction continues along U.S. 2 - day and night. A speed reduction remains in place. Mariners: the drawbridge will open at the top of the hour between 8:00 a.m. and 8:00 p.m. each day. Pittsford – Multiple roadway reconstruction activities on U.S. 7. Expect flagged traffic with some delays. Motorists should proceed with caution as they navigate new traffic patterns and lane shifts throughout the project. A speed reduction to 35 mph remains in effect.

Plymouth – A culvert replacement and roadway improvement project begins along VT 100. Motorists will encounter lane closures with flaggers managing alternating traffic.

Plymouth – Bridgewater – Expect one-way alternating traffic with some delays along VT 100A for a paving project. Motorists will encounter Automated Flagger Assistance Devices (AFADs) in place of flaggers.

Proctor – North Street remains closed to through-traffic at the location of the bridge project over the Vermont Railway until October 2021. A signed detour is in place.

Richford – Jay – Motorists should expect one lane of alternating traffic along VT 105 in multiple locations, resulting in delays.

Ripton A roadway and streambank stabilization project on VT 125 is underway. Expect flagged, one-way alternating traffic throughout the project area.

Rockingham – Our partners at NHDOT are working on a rehabilitation project on the Church Street Bridge connecting Vermont and New Hampshire. Motorists should expect intermittent, alternating one-way traffic and some delays.

Springfield – A roadway resurfacing project is underway along VT 106 and VT 10. Paving on VT 10 between VT 106 and VT 103 will cause delays. Expect one-way alternating traffic in various locations along this route.

Waterbury – No major disruptions are expected on U.S. 2 in the village downtown. Motorists should still expect flaggers and workers as crews complete punch list items in the area.

Williston – Due to the closure of Muddy Brook Bridge on Kimball/Marshall Avenue, motorists on U.S. 2 will see an increase in traffic interruptions and should expect extended delays during peak commute hours in the morning and evening. Plan for extra travel time through the area. Motorists will also encounter a temporary detour with lane shifts along U.S. 2 near its intersection with Industrial Avenue.

Winooski – A concrete slab rehabilitation project continues along U.S. 7 and West Allen St. (the Winooski Circulator). Work is scheduled for Sunday night through Thursday night (08/15-08/19). Expect lane closures from 7:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m.

Woodford – A ledge stabilization project is underway on VT 9. Eastbound traffic is reduced to one lane; a lane shift for westbound traffic will be in place through November. A traffic hold is planned for Monday, 8/16 from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. for blasting operations. Delays will occur.
