Vermont Business Magazine The Department of Buildings and General Services (BGS) has announced the commencement of online auctions offering a large assortment of State vehicles and equipment. BGS administers the State’s Surplus Property Program which receives and redistributes items no longer needed by the State such as office furniture, computer equipment, vehicles, and hundreds of other items. The auctions are an excellent opportunity for Vermont communities and others throughout New England to obtain a good deal on a vehicle or piece of equipment. Access to the auction system is facilitated by Auctions International.
During the pandemic, auctions were suspended to comply with health and safety requirements.
“These auctions are designed to help the State to recapture some of the funds invested in equipment on behalf of taxpayers over the years,” said BGS Commissioner Jennifer M.V. Fitch. “Finding new homes for this equipment is a win-win for the State and provides value to communities, contractors, and members of the public who can save money by obtaining well-maintained equipment and vehicles at auction prices”.
This online offering is in lieu of the annual physical auction that traditionally took place in the spring. The state’s response to COVID-19 meant the 2020 physical auction was cancelled and the restrictions for cross-border travel preempted online auctions in November of 2020.
A major collection of state vehicles and equipment including, dump trucks, plow trucks, pick-up trucks, box trucks, tools, tires, trailers, miscellaneous parts and more will be offered to the highest bidder.
The sale will be active via multiple listings throughout the spring and summer. The equipment and vehicles are located at various state facilities. Interested buyers will be able to contact the facilities to arrange to lay eyes on the items and “kick the tires.”
