Vermont Business Magazine Community Bank NA recently presented a $10,000 donation to Special Olympics Vermont (SOVT) as part of its Goals for Good sponsorship with the University of Vermont men’s and women’s ice hockey teams.
At the start of the hockey season, Community Bank N.A. pledged to donate $75 per goal to SOVT. This is the third year in a row the bank has supported this community initiative and this year expanded the partnership to also include the women’s ice hockey team.
“We’re thrilled to have partnered with the University of Vermont men’s and women’s ice hockey teams for its 2020-2021 Goals for Good sponsorship to benefit Special Olympics Vermont,” Community Bank N.A. Regional Manager Anita Bourgeois said. “Special Olympics Vermont is an integral part of our community and we are proud to have expanded this year’s partnership to include the women’s ice hockey team to help further support their mission.”
Community Bank also recently sponsored the 26th Annual Penguin Plunge, and their team of eight raised over $3,200 with support from co-workers, family members and customers. Their team participated in the virtual plunge in March; playing a game of volleyball in 20 degree weather.
Community Bank N.A. has actively supported Special Olympics Vermont since its acquisition of Merchants Bank in 2017. Since 2017, the bank has donated more than $90,000 to support Special Olympics Vermont through its Penguin Plunge, Holiday Games, Goals for Good, and golf tournaments. In addition, Community Bank team members contributed more than 300 volunteer hours at its various events.
Special Olympics Vermont is part of a global movement, founded in 1968 by Eunice Kennedy Shriver, that works year-round to foster the inclusion and acceptance of people with intellectual disabilities by using the power of sport to showcase and share their gifts and abilities.
