Vermont Business Magazine Red Onion Café will move to Charlotte Crossings at the end of the month. The Red Onion has been a staple on lower Church Street in Burlington for the past 30-years and is well known for its sandwiches and homemade bread.
“I started to look for a new location once the pandemic started and impacted my business so significantly,” explained Mickey West, owner of Red Onion. “Between the high rent on Church Street and the dwindling foot traffic due to people increasingly working from home, making a move to Charlotte was a no-brainer. I’ll be closer to home, on busy Route 7, serving my food to a great community.”

Visitors to Charlotte Crossings can soon enjoy the sandwiches, soups, salads, and bread that have cultivated such a following over the past three decades. The Red Onion will now operate as a retail location that sells bread and prepared foods for customers to heat and eat at home and Vermont merchandise.
Charlotte Crossings is located at the former Wildflower Farm on Route 7 just south of Ferry Road in Charlotte.
They will continue to offer their famous sandwiches, including the aptly named “The Famous Red Onion,” which includes turkey, bacon, apples, red onions, smoked cheddar cheese, and sun-dried tomato mayo.
Additionally, breakfast items will be sold and will include breakfast sandwiches, homemade muffins and scones, and hot coffee.
“We are so excited to have Mickey relocate The Red Onion to Charlotte Crossings,” said Mike Dunbar, owner of Charlotte Crossings. “We have been working to cultivate a community within our building, and The Red Onion is a great addition. We’re thrilled that Mickey will bring breakfast, lunch, and to-go prepared foods to Charlotte. Over the summer, we hosted a pop-up restaurant and food truck events, and have seen that the greater Charlotte area is hungry for food options. If you have never had a Red Onion sandwich, you are in for a treat!”
The Red Onion will be fitting up the space at Charlotte Crossings through October and expects to be open for business at their new location at Charlotte Crossings by the middle of November.
