Vermont State Police investigate apparent homicide in Cambridge

Vermont State Police Following continued investigation, the Vermont State Police is identifying the victim as Michael Haines, 39, who was a resident of the home on Hillside Drive in Cambridge.

Investigators are pursuing multiple leads, while the Crime Scene Search Team is processing the location where the homicide occurred. An autopsy on the victim is expected to occur Wednesday, March 4, at the Chief Medical Examiner’s Office in Burlington to determine the cause and manner of Mr. Haines’ death.

Members of the Vermont State Police are investigating the apparent homicide of a man early Tuesday, March 3, 2020, at a home in the town of Cambridge. The victim was discovered at about 3 a.m. at a residence on Hillside Drive. Preliminary indications are that the victim was shot, and that incident was targeted at the victim. The suspect is currently unknown. The investigation remains in its earliest stages.

Detectives with the Vermont State Police Major Crime Unit and Bureau of Criminal Investigations, joined by members of the Crime Scene Search Team and Field Force Division, are investigating the incident.

The victim’s body will be brought to the Chief Medical Examiner’s Office in Burlington for an autopsy to determine cause and manner of death. His identity is being withheld at this time pending notification of next of kin.
