Mitzi Johnson fills vacated seat on Climate Council with Brian Gray

Vermont Business Magazine Speaker Mitzi Johnson announced the appointment of Brian Gray, General Manager of the Energy Co-op of Vermont, to represent the fuel sector on the Vermont Climate Council.

Gray brings a broad range of important experiences to the Council. He grew up in the Northeast Kingdom, worked for Vermont Gas for 30 years, and now manages a cooperative not for profit energy business that delivers heating oil, kerosene, and local Vermont wood pellets to rural and more developed regions of Northwest and central Vermont.

“Brian brings business experience with a wide variety of fuels. He has a strong, demonstrated commitment to helping Vermonters at all income levels transition to renewable energy where appropriate and to reduce fuel consumption. He has a strong understanding of the needs and challenges of rural Vermont," said Speaker Johnson about the key factors that elevated his candidacy above other qualified and interested applicants.

“I am excited to represent the Energy Co-op and the fuel dealers of Vermont in working on this important issue” said Gray.

The seat was vacated when the original appointee resigned. The Climate Council is the newly formed body under Act 153 of 2020, the Global Warming Solutions Act. The Climate Council is required to develop a Climate Action Plan that sets forth the proposed programs and strategies to meet reductions set forth in Act No. 153 and to build resilience to the impacts of climate change.
