Vermont Business Magazine As a result of the COVID-19 emergency, some motor carriers have requested an extension of the International Fuel Tax Agreement (IFTA) first-quarter report currently due by April 30, 2020. IFTA has issued a notice that it will not require first-quarter funds to be transmitted from jurisdictions until early June.
"On behalf of the Vermont Department of Motor Vehicles, I am accepting this request for a reasonable extension of time for the filing of any required IFTA return," said Wanda Minoli, Commissioner Vermont Department of Motor Vehicles, in a statement issued today.
The final filing date for the IFTA's first-quarter return will be May 26, 2020. This first-quarter report will continue to include transactions between January 1 and March 31. During this extension, no penalties or interest will accrue until the expiration of the extension period.
This decision does not extend to any other quarterly filing deadlines. This decision does not waive any requirements for the contents of the quarterly reports, nor does it waive any other provisions of administrative rules or Vermont law related to motor carrier requirements.
