Health Insurer Celebrates Holistic Wellness and Building Healthy Communities
Vermont Business Magazine MVP Health Care today announced the winners of its inaugural Workplace Well Being Awards. The award recognizes 20 companies and organizations that have demonstrated a strong commitment to improving the health and well-being of their employees through workplace wellness programs. Gold, Platinum, or Diamond level awards were distributed to various companies, non-profit organizations, and government agencies across New York and Vermont. Additionally, Oneida County was recognized with the Innovation in Workplace Well-Being Award and United Counseling Services (UCS) was recognized with the Excellence in Workplace Well-Being Award.
MVP Health Care extended the award opportunity to all organizations with an MVP sponsored commercial plan, including fully insured and self-funded employers who also participate in MVP’s Work Well, Live Well program. Through this program, MVP’s well-being strategists function as health and wellness consultants to assist employers with overall population health management for their employees. They also work with each company on a wellness program strategy, design, deployment, and evaluation plan for the workplace.
The MVP Workplace Well-Being Award application was built based on best practices that have been proven to be effective, sustainable, and successful for workplace well-being programs. Each applicant detailed their well-being programs in categories such as effectiveness, innovation, workplace environment, leadership support, and employee feedback methods. MVP Health Care then developed a weighted scoring methodology to determine the winners based on the Wellness Council of America’s evidenced-based best practices and selected its inaugural class of honorees.
Oneida County, which has 1600 employees and 16 worksites, is the recipient of MVP’s Innovation in Workplace Well-Being Award. The County’s Employee Wellness Program implemented a unique lunch hour walking program. While the program encourages exercise in the great outdoors, the wellness committee also integrated another key component—the community. The planned excursions are focused on the local landscape and appreciating what is unique about their own surroundings in Oneida County. The team was also conscious of practicing cultural competency by creating a diverse set of experiences to appeal to people of all ages and interests for the walking program. County leadership encourages participation by distributing certificates of participation at the walks for employees to hang in their workspace.
United Counseling Services (UCS), which has locations in Bennington and Manchester, Vermont, received MVP’s Excellence in Workplace Well-Being Award, which is given to the employer with the highest scoring application. UCS has a robust well-being program for their employees that consists of an annual self-care day, guided meditation, walking breaks, and much more.
The Workplace Well-Being Awards were presented yesterday at MVP’s Well-Being Summit that brought together employers from across New York and Vermont to share best practices and build upon the previous years’ successes, while planning for a healthy future.
