TRORC gets $40,000 water quality grant

Vermont Business Magazine The Two Rivers-Ottauquechee Regional Commission (TRORC), which covers towns in parts of Windsor and Orange counties, has been awarded a $40,000 grant from the Vermont Department of Environmental Conservation, as part of the US Environmental Protection Agency pass-through funds for Water Quality Planning.  This year-long funding will allow TRORC and other Regional Planning Commissions to compile water quality data; and conduct outreach with citizens and municipalities on important surface waters and wetlands. It will also help support water quality monitoring activities.

All of these efforts lead to more informed and effective basin plans. These federally required basin plans document surface water quality, identify threats and impairments, and identify projects to maintain and improve water quality. Well-crafted basin plans provide the foundation on which Vermont will invest in water quality projects that address existing pollution and protect existing, high quality waters.   It is essential that Vermont funds the most effective and most supported methods to address water quality.

Vermont’s Regional Planning Commissions have been key partners in water quality efforts with the state agencies, watershed groups, conservation districts, and municipalities.

TRORC provides professional planning, mapping, facilitation, grant writing, and project management services for its thirty member towns in east-central Vermont.
