REI opens first Vermont store Friday

Vermont Business Magazine REI Co-op is opening its first Vermont store in Williston on November 15. The location is the former Toys R Us space off Marshall Avenue. The new, 31,000 square foot store will offer quality outdoor gear for skiing, snowboarding, mountain biking, trail running and more. In addition, REI Williston will offer a specialty bike, ski and snowboard shop for maintenance and repairs, and snowshoe and cross-country ski rentals. Seattle-based REI has more than 32,000 lifetime members in Vermont.

REI Williston is celebrating the new store with free public activities, events and giveaways throughout the weekend:

  • Shop early, get rewards: The first 250 people (age 18 and up) through the door on Friday, Saturday and Sunday will receive a limited-edition water bottle with a $10, $50 or $100 REI gift card inside. Doors open at 10 a.m. on Friday and Saturday and 11 a.m. on Sunday.
  • Afternoon social: Starting at 3 p.m. on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, REI Williston will host a party with free food, music, games and REI outdoor programs. Vendors will also be on site offering exclusive giveaways and demonstrations. Events end at 6 p.m. each day.
  • Local partnerships: REI is partnering with Burlington Beer Company on a limited-edition New England style India pale ale, “Gazing Over Green.” Together, REI and Burlington Beer are donating 10% of beer sales to support the Green Mountain Club.
