Vermont State Police On May 27th 2019 at approximately 1056 hours, a collision occurred near the intersection of Rte. 7 and the Exit 16 southbound on ramp in the Town of Colchester. A motorcycle, driven by Jason Gorman, accelerated quickly north bound on Rte. 7 away from a Winooski Police vehicle and sped past a line of cars stopped at a red light. The motorcycle collided with the rear passenger side of a vehicle making a left turn onto the Interstate 89 southbound on ramp. The motorcyclist was thrown from the motorcycle and was later pronounce deceased at the University of Vermont Medical Center.
The motorcyclist was not wearing a DOT approved helmet. Toxicology results are pending. Speed is a factor in the collision. The motorcyclist’s license to operator a motor vehicle in Vermont was under criminal suspension and the investigation has revealed there was an outstanding warrant for his arrest. At the request of Colchester Police Department, the Vermont State Police is serving as the lead investigating agency of the crash. The Vermont State Police Crash Reconstruction Team was called to assist with the collision. Also assisting with the crash was St. Michael’s Fire and Rescue, Colchester Fire and Rescue, Colchester Police and Winooski Police. All aspects of the crash remain under investigation.
