Vermont Business Magazine On Saturday, June 15, 2019, the Vermont State Police deployed an aggressive traffic enforcement campaign throughout Chittenden County. This was a two-phase, high visibility initiative with the first phase employing a zero-tolerance “See the Violation, Write the Violation” directive as Troopers targeted and identified aggressive driving violations and the second phase employed a high-intensity impaired driving saturation. A total of nine (9) arrests were made and numerous civil traffic violations were issued.
Phase 1 resulted in the following:
- 4 criminal citations for Excessive Speed
- 1 criminal citation for Driving Under the Influence (DUI)
- 34 speed violations
- 15 violations that consisted of various violations, such as Traffic Control violations, Portable Electronic Device violations, “Move Over” violation, etc.
- 1 Commercial Motor Vehicle (CMV) Violation and Inspection resulting in the CMV being placed out-of-service
- 100% of operators contacted were issued civil or criminal penalties.
Phase 2 resulted in the following:
- 4 criminal citations for Driving Under the Influence (DUI)
“The dedicated team of Troopers who worked the High Visibility Enforcement (HVE) detail had a tremendous impact on our highways,” stated Lt. Tara Thomas, Commander of the Vermont State Police Safety Programs Unit. “This team detected, intercepted and enforced numerous criminal and civil violations that threaten our roadways every day. Their focus throughout the detail was to ensure every Vermonter and visitor to the state got home safe to their families. I believe the results of their enforcement did just that”, Lt. Tara Thomas stated.
