Vermont Business Magazine Community Bank N.A. recently presented King Street Center with a $5,000 donation to support the organization’s Afterschool Excellence & Summer Camp programming. The funds will provide care and meals for children who attend. King Street Center’s Afterschool Excellence program and Summer Camp promote safe, healthy fun in a creative environment for kindergarteners through fifth-graders residing in Burlington. The 6-8-week program includes arts and crafts, outdoor and indoor play, cooking, technology, constructive and dramatic play, exploring nature, tennis and science activities.
Founded in 1971, King Street Center was born thanks to a few dedicated parents, a group of volunteers from the University of Vermont and a budget of $90. The program began in a van parked next to the King Street Laundromat with the mission to provide community-based support for children and their families through educational and recreational programs. Today, the center serves more than 500 Burlington-area children and families each year.
“Community Bank N.A. is proud to support King Street Center and help them build on nearly five decades of success,” Community Bank N.A. Trust Officer Sean Houghton said. “Programs like those provided at King Street Center have a powerful impact on youth, giving them the life-building skills necessary for healthy and productive futures.”
