Vermont State Police On July 17, 2019, at approximately 1155 hours E911 was contacted and a request was made to have medical personnel respond to a gravel pit/stone quarry, located off Pond Road in Swanton, Vermont. The reason rescue personnel were requested was for a person that was trapped by a piece of equipment. Swanton Village Fire Department, Missisquoi Rescue, AmCare Rescue, as well as Troopers and Detectives from the Vermont State Police responded to the scene. The victim was pronounced deceased at the scene.
The initial investigation indicates that the incident where the death occurred was an accident.
The victim has been transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner for a pending autopsy.
The Mine Safety and Health Administration (MSHA) was contacted and is conducting an investigation. Their investigation will also include equipment which was on the gravel pit site at the time of the incident.
The identification of the victim is pending notification of next-of-kin.
The investigation will continue into this incident.
