Vermont Business Magazine The Vermont Secretary of Administration, Susanne Young, announced today that a lease has been signed between the State of Vermont and DEW Construction for Barre City Place on North Main Street in Barre, which will facilitate the move of Vermont Agency of Transportation (VTrans) staff to Barre.
“This is a major step in the planned move of approximately 300 state employees from the National Life Building in Montpelier to the Barre office building,” said Secretary Young. “The move is estimated to save the State $5.9 million over the 15-year period the lease covers through improved efficiencies of underutilized office space.”
Transportation Secretary Joe Flynn said, “The lease agreement enables us to develop a more detailed timeframe for our staff and Barre officials, whom we are working closely with.”
VTrans is helping to facilitate transportation to the new office location in Barre through support of Green Mountain Transit’s planned launch this spring of a three-year pilot bus service between Burlington and Barre.
The plan to move follows a June 2018 fire at the National Life Building in Montpelier that displaced several hundred State employees, facilitating the opportunity to reevaluate statewide usage of office-space with Buildings and General Services.
