Vermont Business Magazine Alpine Telehealth, a new Brattleboro, Vermont company, aims to tackle the ongoing crisis in the mental health system in Vermont using telemedicine to provide remote access to mental health treatment. Telemedicine is the practice of remote diagnosis and treatment of medical conditions video-conferencing technology to remotely connect health care professionals with individuals in need of care.

Vermonters in the midst of a mental health crisis often wait days, even weeks in hospital emergency departments without receiving needed treatment while they await placement in one of the limited inpatient psychiatric beds throughout the state. Additionally, many primary care providers lack the medical expertise to provide the most effective mental health treatment, which results in many individuals with a mental illness not receiving the quality care they require.

Telemedicine services offered by Alpine Telehealth allow patients in need of treatment to be assessed by a psychiatrist where and when they need it, eliminating unnecessary delays in starting potentially life-saving treatment.

Dr. Mark McGee, president and founder of Alpine Telehealth states, “Geography no longer needs to be a barrier to receiving high quality mental health care. Telemedicine brings medical expertise to individuals where and when they need it, irrespective of the miles between them. This is a real game changer for how Vermonters receive the care they need.”

Alpine Telehealth was founded in 2018 by Dr. Mark McGee, a board-certified psychiatrist with extensive experience developing telemedicine programs and treating individuals with mental health and substance use disorders. Prior to starting Alpine Telehealth, Dr. McGee served as the Chief Medical Officer of the Brattleboro Retreat where he pioneered the use of telemedicine for inpatient psychiatric treatment and developed a first of its kind inpatient telepsychiatry service. Dr. McGee received his medical education and residency training in psychiatry at the University of Vermont and is a Clinical Assistant Professor of Psychiatry at the Larner College of Medicine at the University of Vermont.

Alpine Telehealth is a Brattleboro, Vermont based telemedicine company that provides telepsychiatry services to hospitals, health centers, educational institutions, and individuals throughout Vermont and New Hampshire.
