Vermont Business Magazine The American Institute of Architects Vermont Chapter (AIAVT) honored Richmond-based Birdseye with two design awards at their annual meeting held on December 4th at the University of Vermont Alumni House in Burlington. “We’re truly honored to be recognized for both of these projects,” said Brian Mac, principal architect at Birdseye.

Vista House, a mountaintop residence in Vermont, won a Merit award. The Jury commented that “the design carefully responds to views and solar orientation to offer a thoughtful composition. Rigor and restraint are exercised in the design of the entire project. Beautifully crafted.”

Vista House was built by MTB Builders, Inc of Waterbury Center, with structural engineering provided by Engineering Ventures of Burlington.

The Honor award went to Bank Barn, a residence designed and built by Birdseye in Woodstock, Vermont. Said the jury, An archetype vernacular form is used to create a contemporary building. The extruded form successfully engages with the site to integrate interior space with exterior context. The detailing and execution of the exterior envelope was carefully considered and very successful.”

This years’ award submissions were judged by members of the Maine chapter of AIA, including Tim Lock, OPAL, Jessica Robichaud, WBRC Architects & Engineers, Gianne Conard, Retired, Patrick Costin, Canal 5 Studio, and James Beasle, ZeroEnergy Design.

Bank Barn has also received a 2019 Citation from AIA New England and was recently featured in the New York Times article “How to Build a Modern Barn” by columnist Tim McKeough. “We’re proud of this project. Bank Barn was a real team effort, from our clients to our consultants to the builders at Birdseye, everyone helped make the project a success and we are happy to see the attention it has received,” says Jeff McBride, project architect at Birdseye. Landscape design for Bank Barn was provided by Wagner Hodgson Landscape Architecture, while Atelier Ten provided the environmental design, and structural engineering was lead by Engineering Ventures.
