Vermont Business Magazine Southwestern Vermont Medical Center (SVMC), part of Southwestern Vermont Health Care (SVHC), is expanding its Healthy Hearts Support Group to include anyone living with a chronic condition.
“Evidence shows that peer to peer support groups can improve quality of life by providing social support and reducing isolation,” said Adrienne Gigliotti, RN, who leads the support group with Nancy Iserman, an SVMC social worker. “Making those benefits available to local patients is the aim of this group.”
Meetings are held 10 – 11 a.m. on the fourth Wednesday of each month on the 3rd floor of the West Wing of the Southwestern Vermont Medical Center, 100 Hospital Drive in Bennington. Free valet parking is available, and signs are hung to direct attendees who enter through the Main Lobby.
The support group offers guest speakers and educational opportunities. The meeting time coincides with the Vermont Foodbank’s VeggieVanGo 11 a.m. delivery of free fresh produce for community members to the parking lot closes to SVMC’s Monument Avenue entrance.
“Attendees can benefit from the support group and conveniently pick up healthy ingredients in one trip,” Gigliotti said.
There will be free decaffeinated coffee available at each meeting, and families and caregivers are welcome to attend. Those interested can reach Gigliotti at 802-440-0993 or drop in.
