Vermont Business Magazine The Bennington Regional Chamber of Commerce in conjunction with Hopridge Farms presented the fifth annual Southern Vermont Summer Homebrew Festival this past weekend. The festival was held at 802 Restroom’s new complex on Shields Drive in Bennington from noon to 4 pm with patrons enjoying unlimited samples of home-brewed beer, wine, mead, cider and more, plus entertainment and eats from Hound Dogs food truck.
The festival saw over 400 patrons throughout the day while the best homebrewers encouraged everyone to try their newest brews. This year the festival claims to have the best of the best in terms of homebrewing. With over 100 different brews, this year featured a select 19 brewers.
The attendees were treated to some unique and delicious offerings from the Home Brewers. The Battenkill Brewhouse brought several styles to include their Mexican Coffee Stout and Thai Mule ginger beer with Galangal and Kaffir Limes. Texermont Brewery poured Evermore Berry Cider and Amarillo by Morning IPA. A crowd favorite, Wicked Ways Brewing brought five different offerings to include, “I Must Beer You a Russian Imperial Stout” and “Cool Hand Cuke” a Pale Ale with Cucumber.
“Once again the Home Brewers brought some incredible home brewed beverages and were able to talk to the attendees about them. The feedback from the crowd was overwhelmingly positive and they enjoyed the new venue, free shuttle, and VIP hour,” said Will Gardner, producer of the event with Hopridge Farms. “It’s a tremendous amount of work to ensure these festivals are fun, safe, and organized. We couldn’t do that without the help of our volunteers and supporters!”
The festival has several awards all of which are voted on by the crowd. This year they announced the top 3 in each category:
Best VIP Beverage: 1st Place: Three Teachers Brewing, Pink Lemonade Wheat, 2nd Place: Smooth Liquidation Brewing, Lullaby (Bourbon Barrel Aged Stout), 3rd Place: Shield Maiden Brewery, Frokost (Maple Mead)

Those vendors include Audreys Art, Hoppy Valley, Outdoor Secrets Unwrapped Hot Sauces, That's Different Chocolates, and Rooted In Vermont: Vermont Farm to Plate Network. Plus the festival had Hound Dogs food truck, voted to have the Best Philly Cheese Steak, serving up the areas finest made to order food for the crowd.
“As with all our events, we simply could not do it without our community of sponsors,” adds Matt Harrington, executive director of the chamber. “They include our presenting sponsor Greater Heights Tree and Land Management, our host and porta-potty sponsor 802 Restrooms, our media sponsors The Bennington Banner and CAT-TV, and our food sponsor Heritage Family Credit Union. We thank them very much for their encouragement and generosity!”
