Vermont State Police On August 4, 2019 at approximately 01:46 AM flames/smoke were noticed coming from a vacant building located across the road from the former Ingalls Market on VT RTE 100 in Eden Mills. North Hyde Park/Eden Fire Department was notified of the incident and responded to the scene. The one-story stone building had been unoccupied for nearly a year, since the store closed.
Upon arrival fire personnel discovered that the one room building was fully engulfed in flames. The walls were constructed of cement blocks, however, the roof was of wood-framed construction and collapsed shortly thereafter. As part of his scene examination, N. Hyde Park/Eden Fire Chief Brent Lanpher contacted the VT Dept of Public Safety Fire and Explosion Investigation Unit for assistance with an Origin & Cause investigation. Investigators from the Fire & Explosion Unit responded to the scene later that morning and began an O&C investigation. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
