Vermont Business Magazine The Vermont Manufacturing Extension Center (VMEC) has received a grant to provide Lean Manufacturing and Leadership Skills workshops to manufacturing companies in Caledonia, Essex and Orleans counties at 50 percent off the standard fees. Multiple Lean Manufacturing and Leadership Skills workshops are planned to be held at locations in Newport and StJohnsbury.
This workforce development opportunity for Northeast Kingdom manufacturers is made possible through a recently-awarded Northern Border Regional Commission (NBRC) grant, through the Northeastern Vermont Development Association (NVDA) and the Lake Champlain Regional Chamber of Commerce (LCRCC) through the Vermont Quebec Enterprise Initiative.
Workshop topics include: Lean Manufacturing 101; Structured Problem Solving; The 5S System: Workforce Organization and Standardization; The Changing Role of Leaders for Senior Leaders; and The Changing Role of Managers for Mid-Level Managers.
According to VMEC Director & CEO Bob Zider, "This is an outstanding training opportunity for Northeast Kingdom manufacturing companies at a significantly reduced cost, thanks to the grant opportunity provided by our forward-looking partners. These practical workshops can yield a high Return-On-Investment (ROI) for each business that participates. Attendees learn powerful ideas and proven skills, methods and solutions that can immediately be applied and threaded into the continuous improvement and growth strategies of their enterprise. And the learning and workforce skills advancement that will be taking place enhances the ability of VMEC to provide assistance to companies that seek follow-on advice, coaching or hands-on implementation support.”
And David Snedeker, Executive Director of the Northeastern Vermont Development Association, adds, "NVDA is excited about this opportunity as it allows more NEK manufacturers to engage with VMEC, an experienced organization that has long been assisting VT manufacturers to improve productivity through more efficient manufacturing and business processes."
