Burlington Electric to hold second annual Home Energy Tour Saturday

Vermont Business Magazine The Burlington Electric Department, joined by Mayor Miro Weinberger, Burlington homeowner Brett Roeser, contractors, credit union representatives, and other community partners, today invited the community to the second annual Burlington Home Energy Tour, taking place tomorrow, Saturday, September 29, 2018 from 10:00am-1:00pm featuring five Burlington homes. The goals of the self-guided tour are to offer inspiration on how to reduce home heating and cooling costs while living comfortably, and provide participants with opportunities to learn from Burlington homeowners who are using solar, cold climate heat pump technology, and energy control devices, as well as enhanced weatherization, to keep their homes warm in winter and cool in summer. Mr. Roeser shared details of the recent weatherization work performed on his home.

“Burlington residents could save hundreds of dollars every year by installing energy efficiency improvements and renewable energy technologies in their homes,” stated Mayor Weinberger, who attended today’s event at the New North End home of Mr. Roeser and Mika Moore, his wife. “I encourage Burlingtonians to reach out to BED to take advantage of resources that will help them make these energy investments, leading to community progress toward our Net Zero Energy City goal.”

“It’s a great pleasure to feature our home on Saturday’s tour,” said Roeser who, together with Moore, worked with the Energy Co-op of Vermont to weatherize their home. “The steps we took to make our home warmer in the winter and cooler in the summer are saving us energy and money in the long-run. We look forward to talking about our work with our neighbors and friends and hopefully inspiring others.”

“Saturday’s tour is another example of Burlington Electric's ongoing commitment to build a sustainable energy future, one based on energy efficiency that also includes weatherization and new technologies like solar, cold climate heat pumps, and electric vehicles,” stated Chris Burns, Burlington Electric’s Director of Energy Services. “Thanks to these generous homeowners, our Burlington customers will be able to see first-hand what’s possible in their own homes, and get excited about taking steps to help move Burlington toward the City’s net zero energy goal.”

Burlington Electric has partnered with three local credit unions – Green Mountain Credit Union, Vermont Federal Credit Union, and VSECU – that offer “green” loans to encourage Vermonters to improve the energy efficiency of their homes and transportation choices to protect our environment.

“VSECU is excited to offer easy, affordable financing for the options highlighted in this tour through our VGreen loan program,” said Laurie Fielder, VSECU VGreen Energy Savings Loan Program Director. “With VSECU’s VGreen offerings, homeowners can make their energy efficiency and weatherization goals a reality, while saving energy and money over the long-term. We are committed to helping Vermonters make smart investments in our communities, and these loans will ultimately have a positive impact on our planet.”

The tour is sponsored by Burlington Electric, Local Motion, the Vermont Green Building Network, and the Energy Co-op of Vermont. Walking, biking, public transit, and carpooling are recommended.
