GMP prepares for possible outages from severe thunderstorms

Storm and Wind Gusts Could Be As Strong asMay 4thStorm That Led to Statewide Outages and Multi-Day Restoration

Vermont Business Magazine GMP is alerting customers that crews are ready to respond to possible outages this afternoon and evening as thunderstorms are forecasted to hit Vermont. Forecasters say the line of storms is ahead of a cold front and it could pack strong winds with gusts that could top 50 MPH in some spots.

The forecast is similar to the thunderstorms that hit Vermont onMay 4th, when strong winds tore down trees and powerlines, impacting more than 40,000 customers. Line crews and tree crews are ready to respond if the storm causes outages. Forecasters expect the severe weather to hit northwestern Vermont starting this afternoon and it should roll out of the eastern side of the statetonightaround8pm.

“Our priority is keeping the public safe and responding quickly to get the lights back on. We continue to monitor conditions and crews are ready. We will update customers on Facebook, Twitter and media announcements,” said Kristin Kelly, GMP’s Director of Communications.
