Vermont Business Magazine Democratic candidate for governor Christine Hallquist has received the endorsement of former Vice President Joe Biden. The press release announcing the endorsement Thursday evening said Biden has dedicated much of his life in public service to standing up for marginalized and forgotten people—he fought tirelessly for the people of Delaware as a Senator and for all of us as vice president. He has been a champion for the working class, universal access to health care, and gender equality, the statement said.
"I'm proud to endorse Christine Hallquist for Governor, because Christine has a vision for supporting working families across Vermont. Her dedication to improving infrastructure and raising wages gets to the core of America's broken economy. Her campaign for livable wages, affordable health care, and affordable college will make a difference in the everyday lives of Vermonters. She has demonstrated courage in the face of adversity and has shown that she is ready to lead as Vermont's next governor," Biden said.
Washington pundits consider Biden himself a possible presidential candidate in 2020.
“Joe Biden has been an advocate for the downtrodden for as long as he has been in politics. His endorsement is a recognition of the importance of state government in making government work for us all. We both believe the economy works better for everyone when opportunities are created from the bottom up,” Hallquist said.
Biden’s work to strengthen the middle class has been a hallmark of his career in public service, the statement said. It went to say that he was instrumental in overseeing the implementation of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Program’s infrastructure program, working with states and municipalities to ensure its success. "His leadership helped ensure millions of jobs for working Americans and mirrors Christine’s commitment to strengthening Vermont’s infrastructure and developing its rural economy. Specifically, her plan to create a fiber optic network for the state and improve Vermont’s rural service delivery will help grow the state’s economy," the statement said.
"Joe Biden has also spent his career fighting inequality and injustice," the statement said. "His advocacy on behalf of women, children, and LGBTQ individuals is representative of his commitment to a civilized society. This principle of standing up for marginalized people has also been the foundation for Christine’s campaign."
