Vermont State Police On September 8, 2018 at approximately 1:21 PM the Vermont State Police received a report of an aircraft crash at the Franklin County Airport located in Highgate, VT. Troopers from the St. Albans Barracks responded along with fire and rescue personnel. A small, single occupant (one seater) helicopter had crashed in a field not far from the runway. The single occupant/pilot was transported to the Northwestern Medical Center located in St. Albans for minor injuries. No one else was in the helicopter.
Information collected indicates the pilot was hovering approximately 15 feet off the ground when a gust of wind cause the pilot to lose control and crash to the ground. The Vermont State Police reported the incident to the FAA who plan to respond to the scene on Monday to investigate further.
No other persons or aircraft were involved.
